    WSL2 Support for drive mounting

Hi im using Windows 10 2004 with WSL2. I have 3x drives: C:\ (SSD), E:\ (NVME), D:\ (Drivepool of 2x 4TB HDD) When the drives are mounted on Ubuntu, I can run ls -al and it shows all the files and folders on C and E drives. This is not possible on D When I run ls -al on D, it returns 0 results. But I can cd into the directories in D stragely enough. Is this an issue with drivepool being mounted? Seems like it is the only logical difference (aside from it being mechanical) between the other drives. They are all NTFS.

    NTFS Permissions and DrivePool

Spend long enough working with Windows and you may become familiar with NTFS permissions. As an operating system intended to handle multiple users, Windows maintains records that describe which user owns each file and folder and how much access each user has to those files and folders. These records are kept on the same volumes as those files and folders. Unfortunately, in the course of moving or copying folders and files around, Windows may fail to properly update these settings for a variety of reasons (e.g. bugs, bit errors, power interruptions, failing hardware). This can mean files a

    Removing drive from pool

Have you determined what speed your TV streaming device pulls movies from your Storage Spaces or DrivePool? For example, when I watch my DrivePool GUI, I can see that my Fire TV Stick is pulling about ~4 MB/s tops for streaming 1080p movies. I don't suffer any stuttering or caching on my system. If I try to stream movies >16GB, then I start to see problems and caching issues. But, at that point, I know I have reached the limits of my Fire TV Stick with limited memory storage and its low power processor. It is not a limit of how fast DrivePool can send data over my wifi. Well, there

  7. This is a topic that comes up from time to time. Yes, it is possible to display the SMART data from the underlying drives in Storage Spaces. However, displaying those drives in a meaningful way in the UI, and maintaining the surface and file system scans at the same time is NOT simple. At best, it will require a drastic change, if not outright rewrite of the UI. And that's not a small undertaking. So, can we? Yes. But do we have the resources to do so? not as much (we are a very small company)

I actually wrote a balancing plugin yesterday which is working pretty well now. It took a bit to figure out how to make it do what I want. There's almost no documentation for it, and it doesn't seem very intuitive in many places. So far, I've been "combining" several of the official plugins together to make them actually work together properly. I found the official plugins like to fight each other sometimes. This means I can have SSD drop drives working with equalization and disk usage limitations with no thrashing. Currently this is working, although I ended up re-writing most of the ori

    2nd request for help

I have only been using DrivePool for a short period, but if I understand your situation, you should be able to open the DrivePool UI and click on the "Remove" drive for the drives you no longer want in the pool. I have done this in DrivePool and it did a good job in transferring the files from the "remove" drive to the other pool drives. However, given nowadays we have large HDDs in our pools, the process takes a long time. Patience is a virtue. Another option is to simply view the hidden files on those HDDs you no long want to keep in DrivePool, and then copy them all over to the one dri

There are a number of fixes for this issue posted on the internet, but every version of Windows 10 seems to have a different solution. I personally just live with inconvenience because the next Windows update could "un-fix" the problem you thought you had solved. I don't have enough time in my day to manually apply "fixes" to Windows that might be wiped out next week on an update. So, if I need to refresh File Explorer, I just hit F5 and it will refresh. This is usually for older pools (pools that don't initially know how many poolparts they should be waiting for). 23. Short answer is that - so long as you're disconnecting ALL of the drives in a pool - yes you can and it shouldn't cause any problems as far as DrivePool itself is concerned. Slightly longer answer is that you would stop the StableBit DrivePool Service* while disconnecting/reconnecting, to avoid DrivePool briefly** complaining about missing drives and to avoid it potentially re-scanning the entire pool when the drives are reconnected, but the software is designed to "fail safely" so even that wouldn't be strictly necessary if you were ever in a rush. Removing drive from pool

I don't know why you saw so much memory usage on your first install of DrivePool. I have never seen anything like that. Is it possible that DrivePool was performing some intensive task at that moment? I am glad that Christopher was able to get you back on track and that things are going much better (normal) now. A long yellow bar usually means DrivePool activity or an error state - like duplication needs to be re-checked. The green bar usually means everything is OK with DrivePool and does not need any attention. If you have a green bar, then I don't understand why you would be looking

    NTFS Permissions and DrivePool

Edit: https://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_DrivePool_Q5510455 is the normal, Stablebit-approved method to reset NTFS permissions. It should suffice in most cases, and it's easier to do than my method, so try it first. To fix broken NTFS permissions I now use a freeware program called SetACL because - at least in my experience - it properly supports both long paths and unicode and can fix damaged security records that Windows builtin tab and utilities like takeown and icacls can’t (for reasons that personally I boil down to “unicode and long paths were added to Windows partly via the progra

Yes, DrivePool, like many of my Windows programs, sometimes hangs and requires a reboot. Most of the time DrivePool works without any problems, but I have run into some circumstances where DrivePool misbehaves and does not correct itself until after a reboot. I ran Windows Storage Spaces for ~7 years, and the small problems I occasionally experience with DrivePool are nothing compared to the problems I had with Storage Spaces trying to manage the same size pool (currently 70TB). IF I had any real complaint about DrivePool, it would be that it really keeps you in the dark on bac

    Unable to remove failing drive

You can attempt a Remove while the pool is measuring. If you don't have drive evacuation enabled (and active!) via the Stablebit Scanner balancer for Drivepool, I would also turn off balancing. Since the first two Remove attempts failed and the drive's health is failing, I personally would tick all three boxes on the next attempt. If that also doesn't work, or only recovers some of the files, you could stop the DrivePool service and attempt to manually move the remaining content of the hidden poolpart folder on that drive into the hidden poolpart folders of other drives in the same p

Then BlueRay discs ~25GB but some BlueRay disc formats are up to 100GB. It's just a constant moving target, I guess. A 5000mb prefetch should be good for about half a 1080p movie these days. Most of my current 1080p movies are between 8GB - 14GB. If I get a movie >15GB, I start to have buffering issues on my Amazon Fire TV stick. Hybrid SSDs are nice for normal use, but in mixed-mode operating environments they get overwhelmed pretty quickly and start thrashing (ie. NAS with several users). There's also the problem of things like DrivePool mixing all your content up across the different drives, so the drive replaces your cached documents with a movie you decide to watch, and then the documents are slow again, even though you weren't going to watch the movie more than once. If there was a way to specify to only cache often written/edited files for increased speed, then maybe? But I think that would still run into issues

UmFriend is correct Plex only sees what DP presents to it as it sees the pool drive (virtual) and not the disks if a drive fails then the "other" copy is used so Plex or any app carries on as normal if you have duplication on. As for the streaming error - could be a number of reasons - one of which is the file was damaged by the disk failure or the disk was removed and plex then could not find the file....... If you have read striping on you can see in DP that it uses both disks at various times when presenting a file to application X - this does not radically change the speed of the

    Move data to a partition

Volumes each have their own file system. Moving data between volumes will require the data to be reuploaded. Only moves within the same file system can be made without reuploading the data, because only the file system data needs to be modified to make such a change.

Nope. No need to change anything at all. Just use DrivePool to create a pool using your existing CloudDrive drive, expand your CloudDrive using the CloudDrive UI, format the new volume with Windows Disk Management, and add the new volume to the pool. You'll want to MOVE (not copy) all of the data that exists on your CloudDrive to the hidden directory that DrivePool creates ON THE SAME DRIVE, and that will make the content immediately available within the pool. You will also want to disable most if not all of DrivePool's balancers because a) they don't matter, and b) you don't want DrivePool wa
