Is there a way to move CloudPart.xxxxxxxx folder, where metadata and cache is stored from one location to another within the same machine without destroing and recreating entire drive?
    In my case - from P:\CloudPart.xxxxx to Q:\CloudPart.xxxxx ..?

KiaraEvirm reacted to PossumsDad in Need Advice On SATA Controller Purchase
    Hi all,

I've been using DrivePool and Scanner for quite some time. Everything has been running great.

It's now time to upgrade some of my hardware. I am taking the plunge and am going to replace the tiring old Core 2 Duo 6420 2.13ghz with a modern i7 6700 3.4ghz processor and motherboard. I am looking at the H170-PRO/CSM LGA1151 ATX Motherboard from ASUS.

I am now running 2 PCI-x 8 port sata cards. Super Micro SAT2-MV8. Of course they will not run at full speed in a regular PCI slot but they do run. The new motherboard does have 2 PCI slots. So I can run the old controller cards if necessary.

So I am thinking about replacing both of them with: The SI-PEX40097 is the SYBA IOCrest 16-Port SATA III 6G PCI-Express Controller Card. This card, a x4 slot card from IOCREST, uses the newest Marvell 9215 Chipset to add up to 16 drives to your system for an overall massive storage capacity boost.

I guess what I'm asking is will this card will work with DrivePool and Scanner or am I better off using my old Super Micro controller cards?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

So I thought when I detached a drive last week I accidentally hit destroy instead of detach and wrote it off as my own stupidity.

I just detached another drive today and CD destroyed it. I lost 40 TBs of data. DO NOT detach your cloud drive until they figure this out.

I am extremely pissed to say the least. I have lost two drives now in the past 7 days, some with data I did not have backed up in another place.

This is extremely unacceptable and I warn all of you of putting anything worth your time on these drives until they make this software more reliable.

I guess the software is listed as beta, so my own fault for thinking it wouldn't ruin a drive in one fell swoop.

Data actually isn't gone but the files they wrote to have no previous versions so it looks like I cannot recover.

    Oh, god, yeah... that's bad.

And yeah, you'd want the "metadata" folder, as this is ABSOLUTELY necessary. This contains the drive's information, including revision and "geometry".  Without it, you won't be able to mount the drive. Period.

And yeah, seeing all the usage info is very nice.

If I understand it correct, there is a big overhead while making small reads. On the other hand I think that the actual max chunk size of 1 MB increases the overhead in download-time for big files, because the maximal number of download threads is limited so it adds one Round-Trip-Time to the download-time for every additional Request.

when im uploading files to ACD the chunks progress is raising for many files up to 1000%.
With other providers (g-drive,...) i dont have this problem.
I have the same settings for all providers (same up/download threads, same cache size,...).

    Is this only affecting me?
Happening because ACD is an experimental provider or is it a problem on amazons site?

Based on the feedback from the community, here is how to get your ESXi Host to pass on SMART data for Scanner in your guest VMs.

All you need to do is the following and then any disk (not USB) you plugin in thereafter will be available for RDM:
In the ESXi Console window, highlight your server Go to the Configuration tab Under Software, click Advanced Settings Click RdmFilter Uncheck the box for RdmFilter.HbaIsShared Click OK

Used the Advanced Settings for StableBit Scanner to enable "UnsafeDirectIo" to get the SMART data from the virtual controller:
    http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_Scanner_Advanced_Settings
And make sure that "UnsafeDirectIo" is set to "True", and reboot.
*Note: UnsafeDirectIo is "unsafe" for a reason. It is possible that it can cause issues or glitches, or in extremely rare conditions it can cause BSODs. In a large majority of cases, these issues don't occur, but it is a possibility. So definitely "at your own risk".

My problem is, that it does not show SMART status, temperatures or anything for any of my drives. This i all the data i get (se picture). Is there something i need to install on my ESXi host, or is this just not possible on my setup, because i use VMware?

KiaraEvirm reacted to KiLLeRRaT in Google Drive Rate Limits and Threading/Exp Backoff
    Hey Guys,

I got slow transfers with Google Drive, and set the threads to 12 up and 12 down.  This worked for a while and everything was a bit faster.

For the last two days, I have been getting countless Rate Limit Exceeded exceptions, even running 1 up and 1 down thread.

I check out online in the Google Drive API guides and found a bit about exponential backoff.

    So a few questions/thoughts:

Is exponential backoff implemented for the Google Drive provider? If I set the provider to use say 12 up and 12 down threads, do they all get blasted out using multiple requests at the same time? (causing rate limit exceptions later on)? Would it work to have something like a 'request gatekeeper' where you can set your own rate limits client side so that no matter how many threads you run, it always obeys that limit you set, and so that there is a 'master exponential backoff' in place? Is there at all a possibility to look at the provider implementation code? Or is this fully baked into the product? It'd be good if there was an API to allow anyone to build their own providers.

    Thanks for a good product!

EDIT: Also, how will all the rate limiting work if you added say 5 Google Drives, each with 12 threads up and down? Quite quickly you will be making a TON of requests...

KiaraEvirm reacted to Blake in Problems with Removing a Drive From Pool
Last evening, I decided to swap out an old 2TB disk for a new 3TB disk to my 4 drive pool which is duplicated 2x. The drives are as follows:

    1x 4TB
    1x 3TB
    2x 2TB

Disks 2, 3, 4, 5 are in the pool with 6 being the Pool itself. Disk 4 is at 100% use.

The 2TB drive got to around 75% completed removal before Windows 10 decided to do one of its famous "I'll restart when I want" moves. After coming home from work a few hours ago, I'm to see what can be done to remedy this situation. For the past hours, it's been 'Measuring', and I'm not sure what to do. My data seems intact and its VERY slow to access via Windows Explorer, although the drives aren't showing up in the DrivePool app.

I'm currently running Version 2.2.0.740 BETA x64 on Windows 10 Pro if that helps. Screenshots are attached.

DrivePool also seems to be very slow to start up in the beginning like never before "Service starting in 1s..2s.....1 minute....etc"

Am I totally borked or is there anyway to salvage this situation?

I have a Dreamhost Web hosting account (that I'm very satisfied with.) They also offer "DreamObjects" which is an Open Source cloud-based storage service (based on Ceph) that can utilize an API that is compatible with the Amazon S3 API.

Could CloudDrive be compatible with something like this?

Their pricing structure starts at something like $0.025/GB/month storage, and $0.05/GB/month for download. It seems pretty reasonable. (I don't work for them--I'm just a happy customer.)

Being able to leverage CloudDrive with this would be very handy.

KiaraEvirm reacted to gj80 in OneDrive for Business maximum file limitation?
    Hi,

I'm doing some research regarding possibly deploying this for some of our serverless clients that want a mobile shared document repository. I had one question though...

My understanding from research I did a few months back was that onedrive for business has a "20,000 item sync limit". And sharepoint team libraries have a 5,000 item limit. This is an issue for a lot of our users that have more files than that. Does clouddrive inherit the same limitation, or is the way files are stored (by chunk?) block-based and thus doesn't run into that?

    Oh, a few more questions...

Backups - when using clouddrive, is running a backup from a computer the most practical solution for backups, or is one of the cloud-based backup services for 365/sharepoint also viable? Does clouddrive support VSS?

Change management - when multiple people edit a file, how is it determined which version is committed? The last one committed takes precedence?
Edit: on second thought, I think I may have gotten the wrong idea about this - this is entirely a personal drive, right? No sharing? Still curious about the file limitation/backups though.

    Thanks!

KiaraEvirm reacted to modplan in Many files in Google Drive, something to be aware of
Just a PSA post here. I recently passed 1.26 MILLION files in my google drive account. Only ~400,000 of these files were from CloudDrive, but I use lots of other apps that write lots of files to my account and thought I would pass on this info.

    1) Google Drive for Windows client will crash, even if you only have 1 folder synced to your desktop: I have only a few docs folders actually synced to my desktop client, but the app insists on downloading an entire index of all of your files on your account into memory, before writing it to disk, when this crosses 2.1GB of RAM, as it did for me after 1.26 million files, the app will crash (due to Google Drive for Windows still stupidly being 32-bit). No workaround other than lowering your number of files on your account.

    2) Google Drive API documentation warns of API breakdowns as you cross 1 million files on your account, query sorting can cease to function, etc, who knows which apps depend on API calls that could start to fail.

I've spent the last 10 days running a python script I wrote to delete un wanted/needed files, one by one. 10 days, and I probably have 10 days left. I hope to get to ~600,000 total by the time I am done.

Hope this helps someone in the future.

Reason being i am splitting my pool and the first drive i am removing is mainly moving its data onto another drive that i also want to remove - so getting double or more handling of the same files!!!!

Greetings, I'm looking for your opinion regarding CloudDrive and how it matches what I'm looking for. I'll try to keep it brief.

I'm currently testing CloudDrive with Google Drive provider, which is what I would eventually use if I decide to go for it.

I want an encrypted cloud drive that would act as a normal drive on my system. So far it's a match.

I would also like to use said cloud drive on multiple systems, though not simultaneously. The idea is to use it on a home computer when I'm home and on a work computer when I'm not.

Now I know CloudDrive has the detach option, but every reattaching seems to take time and download loads of data. I assume that data is some sort of metadata and similar. After it shows up in system, it also starts downloading and "pinning data", which I guess is more detailed filesystem info. What I don't understand is it's size - already at 500 MB with 11.7 GB of data on the drive. What size would it be if I had 1 TB, 10 TB, 100 TB? How long would it actually take to attach and start to use it then? Is it even built for such usecase? If it isn't, what can I do apart from lowering my expectations?

    Thank you for any opinions!
