  1. If you're so inclined, you should be able to use "home group sharing" feature on the pool. And yeah, in almost all regards, the pool is treated as "just another disk". Do what you want to it.
  2. No, there are no current plans for supporting Mac OS X, as that would require rewriting everything from scratch. It may be something for the future, but definitely not planned at the moment.
  3. Per, This is a normal message in the log, it isn't anything to be worried about. And it is completely seperate from duplication. As for duplication, this can take a LONG while, as it's defaulted to a low priority. If you wish to speed this up, you can set "FileDuplciation_BackgroundIO" to false in the config file and restart the server. http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_DrivePool_Advanced_Settings
  4. We try to stay as "hands off" of the system as possible. That way, you can manage everything how you want. And to make sure we don't break anything that you have setup already. Since I'm being kind of lazy here, I'm not reading all the responses... To change the Pooled drive's name, you can open it in Explorer and rename it there, like any other disk. Also, most options are under the "Pool Options" menu, right under the pie chart for the pool. There are additional advanced settings, but these are "very advanced" ones. As for dashboard integration, yes we know. We may add much better integration in the future, but for now, it's basically the same as the remote control UI. So it's at least uniform. As for the "Other", try "remeasuring" the pool, (Pool Options -> Re-measure). That will usually "fix" the issue. But this is any "space" used outside of the pool. Such as .... just outside of it, system/hidden files, or bad sectors, or even the left over space from partially used sections of the disk. As for the Plugins, there are a bunch of balancers built in, but there are additional ones, and even an API to program your own (if you're so inclined) And as for the drive letter, you can run "mountvol /N" from an elevated command prompt to stop new disks from being assigned a drive letter automatically, if you wish. And then you can manually assign a letter or even a folder path for the disks (I mount everything to "C:\DP\i##" personally) http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_DrivePool_Q4822624 Also, if you want to move existing data into the pool, there is the long/hard way, and there is the easy/cheat way. The long way is to drag and drop it into the pooled disk. The quick and dirty way is to enable "Show Hidden Files" and drag everything into the "PoolPart.xxxx" folder. I think that covers everything. If it doesn't, or you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask.
  5. If anyone has this sort of issue in the future, please head to http://stablebit.com/Contact and get a memory dump of the DrivePool.Service.exe process: http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_DrivePool_Dashboard_Freeze
  6. If it is stuck on "initializing", then you need to restart the StableBit Scanner service. That or reboot the system. If it stays like this, then try resetting Scanner's settings. http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_Scanner_Q4200749 If that doesn't help, then PLEASE open a ticket here: http://stablebit.com/Contact
  7. Well, I can say that I know what Alex was talking about. But I am not at liberty to discuss that. Also, I do know that Alex meant to get to this a lot sooner but Reparse Point support was a LOT more complicated than it initially looked. So everything got delayed. Hopefully everything should be back on track soon.
  8. Yeah, TeamViewer is definitely nice. But my preference is and always will be RDP, because the server is a RDP Gateway. That means I don't have to install anything. It just works. And every platform has an RDP app for it. That, and I have 4-5mbps upstream, so it always plays nice. But that router's features are very nice though! And yes, ES File Explorer is awesome (also, if you VPN into your server, you could use ES File Explorer remotely as well, and it would be encrypted)
  9. Yes, you can definitely empty that folder. I'm not sure why it has almost 40GBs in it though. But as it says, it's a Temp folder. You could also run the disk cleanup wizard too. That may get a few other locations that are taking up a bunch of space.
  10. Welcome! I'm a long time fan of yours. As for Scanner, it could be a painting issue, but I'm not so sure that it is. Could you get a memory dump of the server (Scanner.Service.EXE) and the UI (Scanner.UI.exe) and upload those via the Box.com upload widget on the following link? http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_Scanner_Freeze And since i'm not sure which version of windows you're using: WHS/WSS based: http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_Scanner_for_WSS_Error_Reports "Generic" Windows: http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_Scanner_for_Windows_Error_Reports The "DirectIOOverride" or "GoodIdentifyOverride" settings may help, but I'm not sure. http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_Scanner_Advanced_Settings And no, there isn't a setting for more verbose logging.
  11. ... That's unfortunately. We use a web API to check all the installers and files during compile to help avoid this issue. But this is definitely a false positive. At best here, I can recommend that you redownload the file and reinstall it. Short of that, disable ESET temporarily during the install.
  12. I think my next SAS/RAID/HBA card may be one of those, in fact. And "a waste" is a matter of opinion. I mean, any controller that supports more than 4 disks is going to run you a good chunk of money anyhow. And being able to run a BUNCH of drives off of one card is very nice. And thanks for the list. I think the Dell Perc's tend to be a bit cheaper, IIRC.
  13. .... That's a nice long ticket. And unfortunately, it does look like it's an issue with the HyperV driver. So I'm not sure how much we can do to help here. Though, have you tried removing the Samsung disk from the system completely and see if that helps? Also, you say you have a faulty power cable connection? was this for the HDD? If so.... it could be that it may have damaged the circuit board on the HDD. And that *could* definitely cause this sort of weird/erratic behavior.
  14. Well, there are a few people asking for this sort of functionality, so it may be a possibility. And the Ordered File Placement balancer lets you fill up one disk at a time (or two+ with duplication) and lets you specify what order the disks are filled in. So it *may* get what you want done. Which is why I recommended it.
  15. No, definitely not. And the Dashboard tab is basically just the normal UI in a tab in the dashboard. Speaking of which, on the storage tab in the dashboard, is there an "Advanced: Manage DrivePool" link in the "tasks" bar on the right side?
  16. Okay, That may be the issue then. It may be having a "detection issue". I'll let alex know, and see if he can fix it.
  17. I'm assuming you're using version 1.3, correct? If so, could you do this: http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_DrivePool_Log_Collection And reproduce the issue.
  18. Okay, a rash of requests for this is going around. I will make sure alex sees this, and hopefully we can get a balancer developed to do this. That, or if anyone has coding experience (C#, I believe), you could develop one. But Ordered File Placement may be a suitable substitute for the time being. http://stablebit.com/DrivePool/Plugins
  19. Okay, noted. I will bring this up with Alex. But it may be "back burnered" until Reparse point support is stable (it's not a small feat to get it working). But I agree, it's definitely an important feature.
  20. Was this 2012 R2 Essentials "transitioned" to standard? Or 2012 R2 Standard with the Essentials Experience installed? Or is this just 2012R2 Standard?
  21. To be honest, you should enable duplication. At worst, the duplication is done in the background, to help prevent it from interfering with disk or network activity. And when you copy to the Pool, it duplicates in real time (actually, it writes to both locations simultaneously). Which would be better for what you want. And as for removing a disk, yes basically exactly like WHSv1. It moves the contents from the disk to other disks so it remains in the pool.
  22. You mean a "Duplicate to all disks" option here? If so, I was just thinking about the same thing and was going to mention it to Alex. It's a good idea, and would be nice to have for some things (like internal settings too) You have an open ticket with us, don't you? This request definitely sounds familiar. If so, well, I'll repeat it. Just in case you aren't who I think you are: Ordered File Duplication will do a majority of what you want.
  23. Remeasure, well does what it sounds like. It causes DrivePool to rescan all the files in the pools and .... well, remeasure the contents. As for "Other", normally, it shouldn't grow while writing to the pool. That's is definitely weird.
  24. Yes, DrivePool definitely throttles itself based on network and disk activity to prevent any performance issues.
