  1. to whoever may be able to answer this.. i think a discord server would be great for this community and would like to see if we an make i happen.. hope to hear back soon
  2. I'm looking for a faster hard drive for my steam collection in my gaming rig. I'm currently using a 5400rpm wd red 3tb drive.. I'm debating going with a red pro 7200 rpm or maybe ssd but the ssd is so expensive on larger 1tb+ capacities.. so I'm thinking red pro for my drivepool on my gaming rig... any ideas would be great..
  3. 2 years later and all my reds are still going like brand new.. I have a ? about the wd red pro drives that run at 7200 rpm... what is the difference between them and comparable wd black drive .. besides the 24/7 operation... I'm curious because my 5400rpm red in my gaming rig is a lil slow and I'm debating what to get for the steam collection...
  4. will the stablebit products ever support mac os? im curious because im looking into a macbook pro and would love to be able to setup a small pool on it with thunderbolt drives.. im thinking this would also be great for the mac desktops..
  5. its a quad core xeon with hyperthreading.. also i was looking on technet for the download of the eval edition and im wondering why there no version for usb flash drives.. if you guys no of a usb option so i dont need to use dvd r it would be great.. its 4 core and 8 thread sorry for the typo
  6. saw 2016 essential for 399.99 just curious if my xeon 1246 will handle it? said someing in specs about needing 8 cores... my xeon is 4 core 4thread.. with 32 gb ram... am I good for 2016?
  7. for me its either pay 399 for 2012r2 or whatever 2016 will cost...thats why i ask
  8. I hope its not an issue with me asking a question here for drashna... I'm running server 2012 R2 essentials trial edition and saving up for the oem licence... is it worth staying on 2012r2 or I'm debating getting 2016 essentials instead... this means full reinstall and ill need help I'm sure.. on a good note.. 2012r2 is running smooth for I think 1 year without a reload... but if I'm purchasing the os I would prefer the latest edition... any thoughts are appreciated....
  9. im using a single crucial mx200 250GB in my pool o my gaming pc and transfer speeds are at top of my wifi cards speed limit... cant wait to run gigabit to my gaming pc... how bad will the ssd get thrashed as a cache drive? just curious...
  10. u think the wd red 3TB 64mb cache drives are fast enough for gaming at 5400 rpm?
  11. i think im gonna skip the ssd in the pool and just use wd reds... curent pool is a single 3TB red with 64mb cache... but hope to add more soon
  12. thank you that fixed it... 2nd question is can i use a ssd in the pool for games to play off of when being played and then move back to spinner when not being played? hope i asked the ? correctly....
  13. i tryed setting drivepool 30day trial up on my gaming rig activated the 30day trial... renamed pc to the proper name and rebooted... now Drivepool is insisting on a licence transfer from my server... why is this? please help... i wanna run the 30day eval and buy the licence in next few weeks.. is this allowed?
  14. hey hope this isnt wrong to ask here.. im loading my gaming pc and have 2 ssd and a 3TB wd red soon to be a 2nd 3TB and was debating creating a pool for the steam/origen game installs.. and my ? is can I use my 2nd ssd to boost gaming performance with the pool with the ssd optimizer plugin? and how should I go about setting this up? thank to everyone for any assistance...
  15. ya im thinking about swapping my tridents and ripjaws so i can have the 32 gb kit for my gaming / possible video editing workstation...wich will have a gtx 960 4gb graphics card and sli later.and the new gaming rig will hopfully have the xeon e3-1231v3 wich is identical to the e3-1246v3 but without onboard graphics.
  16. would it hurt my server to much if i run it with the current xeon 1246v3 but drop to 16gb (4x4) insteade of the current 32gb? I haven't seen the server ever max or come near using 16gb ram but also have not done any plex or ripping yet
  17. I may be rearranging some hardware... and am wondering if I have to get a smaller cpu formy server if I'm able to run of a Pentium 3258 anniversary dual cor or is my phenom Quad enough power with 16gb ram either way? I'm trying to keep the ability to stream from home 2 my laptop when I'm out and about....I have the phenom 2 945 with 16gb ddr 3 1600 (4x4) and a gt640 gpu o onboard motherboard card... either should do nicely .. I kinda need my xeon 1246 for my gaming pc build...
  18. btw i wanna thank u christopher for the xeon 1246v3 opinion for my server ive had no major issues at all and its still running flawless 24/7.... it has 32 gb gskill trident (4 x8gb sticks)
  19. hey just curious what your take is on the xeon E3-1231-v3... thinking about that or the i5-4690k as my cpu but xeon has hyperthreading... and again do u think wd red drives are fast enough to run games on?
  20. my ssd are both crucial mx 200 250gb so if i use your idea ill fill 250gb very fast.. my 2nd idea was 2 use 1 250gb ssd for the os and then get wd red or black for steam library. and put them in a pool. (i can create a 1 disk pool correct?) then add drives as needed total pool will b 3 drives and smallest will b rotated out for larger as needed. so I'm thinking start with either 2 or 3 tb drives for either a 4 or 6 tb pool and expand as needed...will my steam games run off the pool? currently I have shadow of mordor (40gb game)
  21. im also considering a seagate 3TB 7200 rpm drive for 89.99 on newegg
  22. ? for my gaming pc im looking at rebuilding with an MSI z97 gaming 5 or gaming 6 full atx motherboard... i have 2 250gb crucial mx200 ssd that i may raid 0 for os and i wanna run steam so i am thinking of either hoping the 500gb is enough storage or using a wd black or red spindle drive to store steam liabrary and i was considering using drivepool so i can add 2nd drive to pool when needed if i buy that many games.. already bought shadow of mordor and thats 40gb alone...also looking at gtx 960 4gb for graphics and i5 4690k or i7 4790k for cpu... let me no what u guys think this will all sit on win 10 pro o and i have 16gb ram (4x4) gskill ripjaws ddr 3 1600
  23. ok ill probably stay stock ill be moving my gskill (4x4) 16gb ram over and im looking at the MSI gaming 5 socket 1150 and debating a gtx 960 or 970 with 4gb ddr5 vram
  24. buying a new board and chip and gpu.. but it must last me awhile and I want a K cpu for overclocking.. ill be buying games though steam.. 1st game will be train simulator 2016
  25. is it worth it to get an i7 4790k for gaming and all around use with a 4gb gtx 970 or stick with an i5 4690k
