Install fails on Windows 8

Question

It seems the current version fails to install on my Win8 Desktop machine...

I've tried every version back to 2.0.0.310_x64_beta, but alas, no dice.

Am I just out of luck if I want to run DrivePool on a Win8 box?

Here's the log..

you don't have storage spaces running already do you? Just trying to help I had no problems installing it..

No, just plain ole regular drives in a standard setup.

Have you tried to re-download  the program?  Your log shows version 2.0.0.324 but on the download page there is only 2.0.0.320.

I've tried every version from .324 back to .310.

protip: you can get every version, even the unofficial releases here:

Protip: installing unofficial betas without the developer giving you the go-ahead is a quick way to end up in the scary end of "big red button" territory.

Try this link for DrivePool removal instructions: http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_DrivePool_Q8964978

Note that it is for the 1.x version, but it can be applied to the 2.x version as well (just ignore the Remote Desktop and Dashboard references).

He/they should remove access then as it's crawled by search engines and very easily searchable.  As a developer myself, I know first hand if you put it out there, people *will* install it.

I removed the registry key (nothing else applied to my situation) but it had no effect.

I have been in touch via the normal support channels (since I own several copies and can only get it to install on 1 machine) and they have forwarded the issue on to Alex.

Same problem here.

First time user trying to install v2.0.0.420 on windows 8.1 x64.

Scanner installed fine on its own, but I can't install DrivePool.

I tried the steps suggested above and had no luck. Running install as admin did not help (I didn't really expect it to, as I already have admin privilidges, but I thought that I would try.)

Could you try uninstalling any components that did make it onto the system?

http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_DrivePool_Q3017479

Also:

Open up Windows Explorer and navigate to %temp%. This will take you to the temp folder where the logs are saved.

Sort this folder by Date modified.
Take a look at the top 2 or 3 files and one of them will be the largest one. Could you grab that and attach to that a ticket via http://stablebit.com/Contact ?

Hi,

Just thought I'd reply to this thread since I had the same issue (error 0x80070643).

For me, it was caused by my redirecting the default location for Program Files (and Program Files (x86)) away from my C: drive using registry, under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

  • ProgramFilesDir - REG_SZ
  • ProgramFilesDir (x86) - REG_SZ
  • ProgramW6432Dir - REG_SZ

I had to temporarily restore these values back to their defaults, then reboot and the Stablebit installer then worked fine.

Hope this helps anyone else with similar circumstances.

thanks, this worked for me

Sizzl,

Thanks for posting this. We will look into it, and see about fixing it.

And if this is for 2.x, if you use the "Options" button, does it work fine?

even when specifying the path, it showed the same error for me

also, it would be nice if the path was prefilled with the default path
