Question

Drive pool used to be balanced correctly for the longest time. Then I added a few more drives and it's gone downhill since. No matter what I try to do, it won't balance the drives evenly. I checked logs and didnt see any errors. I tried resetting all balance options to default as well as turning all plugins off except disk space equalizer. No luck. Drivepool obviously sees the balance issue but when I tell it to rebalance, it just immediately stops and continues saying that it is unbalanced. Any help?

Never mind. I found out that the problem was caused by duplicated folders. For some reason it would not balance correctly till the duplicated folders were removed and reapplied.

Could you grab the logs from the system anyways?

Just steps #7-9

Also, where you equalizing based on free space or percentage?

Though, it looks like everything was "fine" in the screenshot, and that it would have equalized if set (the first drive doesn't have a light blue bar, because he duplicate data didn't need to be moved around much.... as it was moving bit from the 4th drive, to the 3rd drive, and mostly, the 3rd drive was moving unduplicated drive to the 1st and 2nd drives).

What do you mean by duplicated folders?  Is there a place I should look specifically?  I'm seeing the same problem.

For some reason drivepool was not using duplicate folders (redundant folders for safety) to balance the drives. After I removed duplicate options and reapplied, drivepool balanced correctly.

Is there any progress on this issue?

I am new to DrivePool. Just set up a new home server with Server 2016 with Essentials Role. All seemed to be balancing fine until I had a HD fail. I removed the dead drive from the pool and ran like that for about a week until I got a replacement drive. After installing the new drive and adding it to the pool, I get the issue with the file distribution not optimal. Rebalancing makes no difference.

My file protections is set to Pool file duplication, no folder duplication. All balancing options are set to default settings.

Update

I removed the Pool Duplication, then turned it back on and still have the same issue. File Distribution is still not optimal. How would this affect the files in the pool?

For DrivePool getting "stuck" and not doing any balancing or the like, this is fixed in the external betas:

http://dl.covecube.com/DrivePoolWindows/beta/download/StableBit.DrivePool_2.2.0.737_x64_BETA.exe

As for the "file distribution not optimal, that is a lot more complicated.

Could you open a ticket here: https://stablebit.com/Contact

And then run this:

OK. I think I submitted a ticket. I entered all the details, then got taken to a Validate page. Clicked on Validate, but nothing seems to happen.

Ran the troubleshooter and the info is being uploaded.

Update

I upgraded DrivePool to the 2.2.0.737 Beta, but it has made no difference. The Pool Organization bar still does not fill to the right, and the message about File distribution not optimal still displays. If this does not affect security and access to the files in the pool, I will not worry.
