  1. Thanks Maybe a good idea to sticky the location to make it easier to find Chris - I assume you marked this solved as i did not
  2. Chris Are there any release notes published (have done a bit of looking around) as cant find them I see with DP the latest is 739 I generally just upgrade as one becomes available as (crossed fingers) have not had an issue with upgrading but as my pool if 75% full now i am getting a little more cautious of what i do to the server Hence interested in whats been fixed / changed Thanks
  3. Hi Yes there are a lot of options I will use my setup as an example as its close to what you want I only have two add ins enabled - SSD Cache and Scanner - if you have more enabled they tend to fight with each other For SSD cache make sure the drives are checked as either SSD or Archive Second in Options set your limits for filling up the drives - mine are 80%, 98% or 100GB Under order placement - re order your drives in the order you want data to be moved to the archive drives - and check the Prioritise option From experimenting these options will work fine - only difference is i have duplication on as x2 Under the Settings tab - my settings are balance immediately but not more than every 3 hrs, if balance ratio drops below 99% and 5GB - rest of settings are checked When i copy a large amount of data to my ssd cache - it depends on the timing and amount IF a balance occurs straight away but it will clear it out within three hours completely. Been working like this for the last couple of months and results in the archive drives filling up one after another (well actually in groups of four as i have four ssd and 24 archive drives) If you want to control where files go rather than let DP decide - you need to set file placement rules - i only have one so if you want advice on that you need somebody else to chip in
  4. Its not there on 2012r2 either on latest beta so i appears to have been removed for the pooldrive is it turned on on the real drives?
  5. #2 - yes they have to be on at the same time Another option is setup both with DP and use one as the main and the other as backup - depending how you want your backup to work - the backup server could be off most of the day - only coming on for the "sync" - you would not need duplication on either - one copy on each - giving you more space. - or some combination of dup and backup To sync you could use robocopy, syncbackpro or any other reasonable backup solution.

    Read Striping

i assume you have read stripping checked under performance settings? not seen the "hold" before what type of disks and how many do you have? what controller are you using?

do you have a ssd cache? i think disk mark creates and then deletes a file multiple time during the testing so without a ssd cache/ssd i doubt you will see a dual read or not fully have you tried reading locally on your dp pc?

Probably because the file thats created for the test is not duplicated in time for you to see x2 read speeds if you do not have an ssd cache enabled I just tested my pool which has an ssd cache and i get 800+ read and 225+ write - i have real time duplication on so that limits the write speed which is what i see in the "real world" when copying over my network although it does vary up to the high 400 hundreds for short bursts. If you have a 10g network it matters but if you are on a 1g network it will not have much effect - unless you do a lot of access locally on the server/pc with DP
  9. Mine doesnt make any noise More likely it's the disks - seagate by chance?
  10. If i understand correctly you have 5 HDD on sata and one SSD also on SATA - you also have 4 USB drives - are all the drives except the os drive in the pool? The sata being the onboard Intel Sata controller and the Marvell controller - do you have the intel RST drivers loaded (Chris has reported some are seeing problems with it loaded - not seen it myself) Double check all power and sata connections are fully engaged. Is the PSU a good make and whats its rating? Is the ssd on port0?
  11. can you list the hardware you are using? i assume you have done the obvious of changing the sata cable? Is it any sata port that when you unplug it allows you to boot into windows? - if specific one then - possible hw fault Have you updated all your drivers etc - not just let windows update do it Have you stress tested the controller(s) via scanner or another test program Is the pSU working well inside its range and is it old? Are any pcie cards correctly seated in their slots - are they getting over hot? Over to you
  12. no thin provisioning will not thick will allocate all space on creation
  13. Thanks guys it working One way to tell is initial slow access to directory browsing - although there must be a log somewhere i will have a look on google
  14. nope no errors (all drives just been through their monthly scan) and the only rule is for a directory so it should not do this - correct? It finished its balance and has not done it again but it move about 1.3TB which is less than the size of the directory ~ 900GB as i thought it might be moving the directory to another drive etc but not sure
  15. Ah ok throttling was unchecked - have set to 180 mins - same as balance settings currently Other than the scanner interface is there a way of checking when disks are spun down without spinning them up? a log perhaps?
  16. Have a read of this http://community.covecube.com/index.php?/topic/2456-other-files-and-sys-vol-info/ a few options depending on OS version
  17. Ok i have turned off the bitlocker option in the xml config file - i.e. false But two to three time a minute all disks are accessed for a couple of seconds and hence wont spin down i disabled scanner and the access has stopped ver 3122 i think what am i missing in the options to stop this??
  18. This appears to be working But have an associated issue i applied a rule to one folder - and turned off the ssd drives - also un checked the "...repect real time..." option as suggested this initiated a re-balance as expected but... now the pool is moving over a TB of files from archive drive to archive drive for no reason - the ssd's were empty so had none of the files of the folder in question Any idea whats going on? Only have ssd opt and scanner plugins active
  19. ok will give it a try oh and the 75% fails every time if the next file to be copied is bigger than the remaining "space" rather than just going straight to the archive drives
  20. not so sure raidport2 is a drive problem how many drives do you have in total? which rocket raid do you have mine are all single drives via my LSI hba so no raid myself when you do the snap raid sync is that on the RR?
