  1. I will try that but its not what i meant - i.e. it should be a feature not a work around
  2. When removing a drive can we have the option to specify which drive(s) to put the data on and/or which drive(s) not to put the data on - obviously DP gives us a list of options based on space and duplicated data restrictions etc. Reason being i am splitting my pool and the first drive i am removing is mainly moving its data onto another drive that i also want to remove - so getting double or more handling of the same files!!!!
  3. Splitting my pool in two can i remove more than one drive at once - it appears so as the option to remove another drive is not greyed out be scared to try it incase it breaks something???
  4. cool thanks - i think i am seeing that - with so many drives a little difficult to say for certain man it takes a long time to remove a drive thats got a lot of data on it - why cant all drives be as fast as ssd's
  5. I guess it does not matter - but was curious how DP decides which files need deleting when you change the folder duplication (re organising my pool and need a bit of extra free space to make it easier)
  6. ouch! hopefully its only the expander thats damaged - they only require power to work so you do not have to insert them into the m/b a pci-e ribbon cable will work fine and can be connected to a pci-e x1 slot - i believe have yet to test this mayself yet but have the cable if it does work on the pci-e x1 slot it free's up a x16 slot for me On the second hand market in europe the HP cards are approx £35 each + postage Good luck
  7. ok i did run the stand alone app why no manufacturer data though - as i am fairly sure it used to bring this down?
  8. i have the same setup with a Lsi 9211-8i (drivers show as "Lsi Adapter, Sas2 Falcon" but have an older driver 14/5/2014 2.0.60.83 - actually thought they were the latest drivers! This is with a HP Sas Expander and 24 drives This is on windows server 2012r2 What OS is your server? Whats the make/type of sas card you are using?
  9. Hi couple of things to check did you reset the archive bit for the files? as you copied them onto new drives windows will mark them for backup how does Allway sync determine if files match? - if by file date etc those have changed you could also try syncbackpro or the free version as you might have more control over what gets backed up
  10. The Betas are available for you to download - have you not tried them? They are stable even if not called that yes most focus has been on cloud drive to the detriment of DP and Scanner - but the beta's have kept up with bug fixes and windows os changes they keep saying they hope to release cloud drive soon - and one day that will happen and then focus can be applied to Dp and Scanner as several things need addressing i get the feeling that CD should be out quite soon - cross fingers
  11. hmm tricky - i was going to recommend Veeam but IIRC that uses VSS as well Try SyncBackPro - expert mode it does versioning - used it on and off for years check the free version it may do versioning as well
  12. ah ok the id for bitflock is for your nest! - thought it was per disk so that brings another question how do you get access to your nest as its setup automatically by scanner and you dont have the password??? still not getting any manufacturer data?
  13. temps sorted themselves out over time still have every disk with same bitflock id??????
  14. Hi yes it is intended as your pool is essentially degraded - you have lost files/ broken duplication etc - so DP prevents further writes - i.e. becomes read only until you restore the missing disk - if it did not you would potentially have a more significant problem with inconsistent files/corruption etc I dont think you can disable this as that would be a very bad thing to do. Much better to fix the drive going missing - i had a ssd disappear intermittently and it was a loose sata cable that was not fully home in the socket although it looked like it was. Also it could be the cable that's the problem or the socket on the motherboard/controller. I would swap the cable and check the connections are secure and fully home. The original disk was probably fine
  15. I have six ssd in my pool and use them with SSD Optimiser and they work fine as singles - admittedly 4x 256 and 2x 512GB What appears to happen is that DP alternates between them - using them in pairs (as have x2 Dup) for each file (think it might be above a certain size - not sure) When they run out of space (copying several Blu-ray rips at once) DP usually falls back to the HDD's of the pool - if you only have a 1g network you probably wont even notice if you do have a 10g network then performance to ssd's is good although its a bit variable on speed (goes up and down a lot during copying - not found whats the cause as yet - have a suspicion or two) but +500GB in one go works fine If you do use SDD Opt - dont have any other plugin turned on other than scanner - otherwise they all fight with each other If you do raid them you will likely lose Smart / probably loose Trim support which will be a problem
  16. I have two Samsung 850 Evo 256GB drives which the main scanner interface is reporting temps as 40c where as the Smart info is reporting 20c Bitflock ID: W8K304UB whats odd is both have same bitflock id - thought this was per disk id?? Actually all my disks are showing the same ID?????? and Scanner is not pulling down any Manufacture Smart Info - possible because its confused with all disks having the same id??? It used to be fine not sure whats changed on 3122 beta and have been for a while
  17. have a look at the plugins - drive space equaliser etc
  18. Hi have you tried re creating the VM 99.99% its a VB issue with DP - not seen this in real world try it with some real disks - i guess you can pass thru in VB?
  19. have 600k of small files @ ~300gb on my drive pool in one "Library" no issue as dp emulates an ntfs volume - its only restricted by ntfs limits
  20. Though i would report some good news as forums tend to be all doom and gloom Last night i did some maintenance on my main DP server and as part of that i removed all the drives All went well and i replaced the drives booted the server - checked i could see the shares - and went to bed This morning i logged in to see that one of the drives was missing (had hit the on off switch in the enclosure during the removal/reinstall) During the night DP had re duplicated the data on the remaining drives I powered up the missing drive and approx 30 seconds later DP picked up that the drive was back During the night a backup had run from another server but not moved off the ssd cache drives - i guess as pool in read only mode as drive missing? First DP did a remeasure - then a re balance (emptied SSd cache drives) - then a dup consistency test and then a duplication run(manual run) - the last is slowly reducing the duplication total So in a little while i should be back to x2 dup rather than 2x+ for the 3.7TB which was on the missing drive Also interesting that rather than "just" empty the missing drive - easy option - it appears to be trying to follow the SSD Optimiser rules (don't have any other plugins other than scanner) Once its finished its duplication run i guess it might do a re balance - will wait and see Impressed it's almost seamless
  21. thanks will see what happens tomorrow when i move the disks
  22. Before i do this wanted to check what is likely to happen I have a pool in pc A and i want to move the drives to pc B But pc B has an existing pool So will the drives be added to the existing pool once connected? - Hope not as Poolpart should be different? Or will a second pool be created - automatically? Or will the drives just appear as "new" drives and i can create a new pool?
  23. Hi for 2) - both dp and scanner run as a service - so closing the UI does not stop them running - have changed drive names (my drives are mounted with no drive letter) while scanner and dp we running with no issues - dp and scanner use the unc path for the drive not the letter/mountpoint for 3) if you cut and paste on the same drive all you are doing is changing the "path" to the file - no actual move takes place - this is no different than normal windows for 1) not done this but i suspect it will not cause a problem - if you are worried then stop the two services for dp and scanner - change the drive letter and restart the services 4) depends - are you using a ssd cache?
