  1. I'm still using the same Case/Power supply but I've since upgraded to a new Motherboard/CPU/RAM/Graphics card. (and new 8TB Red Drives) The reason I upgraded was because of random Blue Screen of Death reboots. After I upgraded nearly everything I STILL had frandom BSoD issues! Long story short, it ended up being a BAD DisplayPort Cable! New DisplayPort cable, and all problems went away. (expensive troubleshooting!) Here's the "good" cable https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YOP0T7G/ Intel Core i7-7700K 4.2 GHz Quad-Core LGA 1151 Processor Ballistix Sport LT 32GB Kit (16GBx2) DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) DIMM 288-Pin - BLS2K16G4D240FSE (Red) ASUS Prime H270-PRO LGA 1151 ATX Motherboard ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 8GB ROG STRIX Graphic Card (STRIX-GTX1070-8G-GAMING)
  2. Wow, glad I found this thread quickly. I woke up to find my desktop had rebooted overnight. I got the BSoD soon after logging in. When I saw NTFS and realized Windows 10 had a big update I suspected DrivePool needed an update. I was in a catch 22. I couldn't install the DrivePool update fast enough without BSoD. I tried Start, Run, MSCONFIG and selected Minimum startup environment. Well after that I couldn't' even log into Windows! (it just froze) I used my Windows USB Recovery Stick and was able to do a system restore point. I was then able to at least log back in, but again only had a short time before BSoD kicked in. I clicked start, typed settings, clicked Update & Security, Recovery, and was able to roll back to the previous version of Windows 10. After that I was able to finally complete the install of the latest Stable Bit Drive Pool beta. (version shows 2.2.0.877 Beta) Should it be safe to try updating Windows 10 again at this point? What could I have done differently than the above? (without restore point and rolling back Windows 10)
  3. I like to use TeraCopy when I move/copy files around. http://www.codesector.com/teracopy Here's what happened. My goal was to transfer files from my C:\Downloads, to 2 locations 1) Copy to Z:\Folder (an external USB hard drive) 2) Move to P:\Folder (my Drivepool) I should have let 1 complete before jumping to 2, but here's how it played out. The Copy was half done, and I had the bright idea of queuing up the Move since I thought TeraCopy could handle it and do it all in order. As soon as I tried to Move, the whole Copy operation stopped with a bunch of file in use errors. (don't have the exact error message handy) The lame thing is TeraCopy seemed to then delete every file that was remaining it seems. I think there was some copy/move conflict confusion Is there any way to use Recuva (or other undelete) on the individual drives? I tried to run Recuva on D:\PoolPart....\Folder E:\PoolPart....\Folder F:\PoolPart....\Folder etc (nothing found)

    Windows 10 support etc

I thought everything was ok, but just found my first bug. There is a mystery folder named "5cc6ba767698f5504f4a776ed0" at the root of my pool, and when I try to access it I get "You don't currently have permission to access this folder" I know drivepool isn't officially supported on win10 yet but any suggestions? Should I try clicking Continue or try something else first? I don't seem to be missing anything, so no emergency just curious mostly. I don't recall seeing it pre-upgrade, so not sure it's related to Win10 or not.
  5. Upgrade complete. So far so good, drivepool is working.
  6. I'll give it a shot I don't mind some short term risk.

    Backup & Windows 10

Sounds good standing by to stand by for win 10 action
  8. Is it still safe to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to final 10 with DrivePool installed?
  9. Here's what I decided on: http://community.covecube.com/index.php?/topic/507-my-new-lian-pc-v2120b-full-tower-home-server-setup-drivepoolscanner/

  11. I'm throwing in the towel on this whole external enclosure hardware setup. It's time I put together a REAL server with REAL sata connections. http://community.covecube.com/index.php?/topic/419-building-a-proper-whs-server-need-advice/page-2&do=findComment&comment=3008
  12. Ok, so I spoke too on the U3esata (mSata to USB 3.0 adapter) being the magic fix. (will be returning them) While not as often, my drives still still drop freezing up network access. I think it's time I officially throw in the towel for USB 3.0 NAS. The main original reason I chose a mini-PC + USB 3.0 enclosures was to keep everything as compact as possible. (bedroom setup) Now that I have more room in my hew house, I might as well get a legit server where everything is connected via real SATA connections and in a separate room. This seems to be the best case out there that can hold 12 hard drives easily. http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pc-v2120/ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811112312 The 5 star reviews say it all too. Now I need to figure out which motherboard to buy, and which add-on PCI-e SATA controller cards to buy. (unless their is a motherboard that can do 12+ Sata Connections? I also want to get the most stable setup I can put together. Suggestions?
  13. Thanks I installed WindowSmart since I use Windows 8.1 (no longer on Home Server) https://www.dojonorthsoftware.net/Downloads.html It can only read 1 of 3 of my U3esata (4 of 11 drives) I submitted a bug report https://www.dojonorthsoftware.net/bugtraq/Issues/IssueDetail.aspx?id=43
  14. Thanks, just responded. Several of the DirectIoTest results look promising so I'm confident Alex will add support again as usual. :-)
  15. I never tried the whole "feeder disk" option yet. I have access to a SSD drive. Is it worth trying out? I have a free SATA port.
  16. UPDATE: The MediaSonic USB 3.0 interface is not stable long term. It was suggested I get DATOptic U3esata adapters, and plug those into the Media Sonic eSATA ports. http://community.covecube.com/index.php?/topic/419-building-a-proper-whs-server-need-advice/?p=2837 So far so good! Transfers are still >100-140'ish Drives also spin down now since the MediaSonic No-Spin-Down firmware update only applies to the USB interface. EDIT: Looks like I lost S.M.A.R.T. monitoring ability in Scanner via the new U3esata. :-( I opened up a support ticket. Hopefully they can add support for it quickly. :-)
  17. I just got the U3esata units today in the mail. So Far So Good! File transfer performance is just as fast as it was before. (lightning quick >110-140) No dropouts or slowdowns yet. I can fit 3 side by side no problem in my USB 3.0 hub. If things continue to stay stable, you just saved me $$$! I prefer having my drives in the external units anyway in case I need quick access after a server crash etc. EDIT: It looks like I lost S.M.A.R.T. monitoring ability in Scanner via the new U3esata adapter. I just opened a support ticket. Hopefully they can add support for it, or else I'll have to look into how to enable the unsafe method again. (been awhile)
  18. Hey thanks for the idea! I was about to drop money on a whole new server but I'll go ahead and try three of the datoptic adapters first. U3esatahttp://www.datoptic.com/ec/usb3-usb2-to-esata-with-port-multiplier-mac-windows.html http://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Support-Multiplier-Patent-Pending/dp/B005DCCMII/ If that doesn't stabilize my system, I have my eye on the http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pc-v2120/ Here's an older video (new one has USB 3.0) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811112312
  19. Wow, I've never heard of the Norco 20 bay servers. If put quieter fans in could be great! Cheaper on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/NORCO-Mount-Hot-Swappable-Server-RPC-4020/dp/B001NO7THO I wonder if SuperMicro has a similar option? My friend is a dealer and could be me one at cost. http://www.supermicro.com/products/system/ My USB 3.0 based system is not 100% stable. (reboot fixes things for awhile) and I'm leaning on going back to real SATA. Here's my complete setup: http://community.covecube.com/index.php?/topic/274-1x-zotac-zbox-id-83-mini-pc-x3-mediasonic-usb-30-enclosures-x12-wd-red-3tb-drives-x1-anker-usb-30-hub/ The Media Sonic boxes support both USB 3.0 and eSATA so I could also try a new PC that supports at least 2 PCIe slots for eSATA compatible controllers.
  20. MediaSonic has a great one that does both USB 3.0 and eSata http://community.covecube.com/index.php?/topic/274-1x-zotac-zbox-id-83-mini-pc-x3-mediasonic-usb-30-enclosures-x12-wd-red-3tb-drives-x1-anker-usb-30-hub/
  21. Wow, imagine a bank of these all on DrivePool lol http://www.pcauthority.com.au/News/367061,samsung-launches-1tb-ssd-for-ultrabooks-and-tablets.aspx Samsung brings 1TB of storage to the mSATA form factor for the first time. Samsung is pushing SSD capacities to new heights with the launch of a 1TB drive in the compact mSATA form factor. Samsung claims it's the first company to offer a terabyte of storage in this form factor, which is normally deployed in devices such as ultra-slim laptops and tablets. The drive is around a quarter of the size of a regular 2.5in SSD drive, and at 3.85mm it's less than half the thickness. It weighs a mere 8.5g. The drive, which forms part of the company's 840 EVO mSATA SSD line-up, will be launched later this month. Samsung is keeping mum on the price for now, but one thing is certain: it won't be cheap. The drive will also be available in 120GB, 250GB and 500GB versions and is capable of sequential read and write speeds of 540MB/sec and 520MB/sec respectively, according to the company. Furthermore, Samsung claims its bundled Magician 4.3 software can push read speeds past the 1,000MB/sec mark, although we'll wait until we see one in the Labs before endorsing such lofty claims. XP Support?

I agree, time to throw in the towel for XP and Upgrade Resistance is futile.
  24. I'd like to know more about it, seems to be working the way I want it done. I've only had one time in the last year where I accidentally deleted something. I had to use Recuva to scan each hard drive one at a time, took quite a while to pieces things back together but I did. I was having Wonky issues on Windows 8 the last month. After upgrading to Windows 8.1 everything is rock solid. (both Laptop, HTPC, and MEDIA Server) I can see your hesitation of upgrading from 7 to 8, but 8.1 is good to go now. I'm in the process of upgrading my friends/family etc.
  25. I guess you can only post a max of 2 youtube links, here's the 3rd.
