RobbieH
I just noticed Shadow Copies is turned on for my drive pool. I'm assuming this should be disabled, but can you confirm this before I turn it off?
0 RobbieH
Another question, is there a way to set DrivePool 2.x to not use a single drive unless it is absolutely necessary? For my purpose, it appears I need this type of a rule because removing a drive keeps giving me a file in use error, then the pool appears to try to rebalance back onto the drive I'm trying to remove. If I could configure DrivePool to not use the drive unless everything else is full, that should give me the ability to move as much off as possible, then deal with what is left later. Another way to do this might be to have a switch in Scanner to manually set the evacuation of the drive.
0 RobbieH
I think I figured how to set a drive out of the pool without using the Remove button. Pool Options, Balancing, Balancer tab, Drive Usage Limiter. I unchecked both Duplicated and Unduplicated for the drive I want out of the pool, and it appears to be moving the data off the drive. I notice it put a blue arrow on top of the bar, and a red arrow on the bottom; I assume this means it is moving balanced and unbalanced to that point - 0%. 0 Christopher (Drashna)
Doesn't matter if it's on or not. But StableBit DrivePool doesn't support Shadow Copies/VSS. As for the not to use a drive, absolutely. Use the "Disk Usage Limiter" balancer. Which you've already discovered. In fact, I recommend using this to prep a drive for removal, to prevent your exact issue (and a couple of other). As for the blue arrows, those are the "target" arrows, meaning that it will try to move the content around to hit that marker. Which is what you want. As for the red arrows, these are the "real time placement limiters". ... ugh, my brain is not working properly right now... I'm having issues describing these ATM.... But basically, "new" files will only be allowed to be placed on the disks UP to those markers. So if they're set to 0 bytes, then no new files will be placed on the drive, unless the balancer moves it there.
