0 Christopher (Drashna) Posted January 28, 2015 Share Posted January 28, 2015 Yes. There are two ways. There is a registry hack to hide specific disk letters... but I recommend agains this. The other is to remove the disk letters (and then ideally mount them to a folder). This can be done via Disk Management. http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_DrivePool_Q4822624 Skip steps #5-8 if you don't want any mount point. If you're having issues here, try restarting the "Server" service and see if that helps. Ill explain what i have done: This is on whs2011, using v2.1.1.561 I removed the driveletters of the disks to unclutter everything. Then mounted each of the disks to different folders in a folder. Everything seems ok after the mounting, if i did just remove the driveletters, stablebit reported the disks as missing. So now with just the mounting into folders, the pool is fine, but shared folders on the pool, loose their sharing after a reboot. Other shared folders on unpooled disks are not affected. Restarting the "Server" service should automatically re-share the folders if it can find the disk "where it's supposed to be". Otherwise, reshare the folder manually. Then try restarting the service afterwards to see if it keeps the shares. If it doesn't, then something odd is definitely going on here. And in that case, do you have any antivirus or disk tools installed? 0 Thidsa Posted March 19, 2015 Share Posted March 19, 2015 Ok tried right now. Folders was reshared a few hours ago, restarting server service did NOT unshare the folders. Ill try a reboot too, again. No no antivirus, disktools i have Paragon hd manager installed. Edit: After a reboot they where gone again.. If so, that's likely the problem. Specifically, here is what is going on: Basically, disks 0,1,2,3,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16 all were offline at the time that we were looking for pool parts on them. No pool parts found (0xc000000f(STATUS_NO_SUCH_FILE)) was reported for: IOCTL_STORAGE_GET_DEVICE_NUMBER: DeviceType=7, DeviceNumber=4, PartitionNumber=2 IOCTL_STORAGE_GET_DEVICE_NUMBER: DeviceType=7, DeviceNumber=1, PartitionNumber=2 Eventually the pool does mount, but it probably happens after the Server service starts up. Since the pool is not visible at the time, it can't share the folders on it. However, this isn't normal behavior. The disks should be considered online already. Could you post more information about your hardware configuration, as well? Also, if you want, open a ticket at "https://stablebit.com/Contact", Its Whs 2011, and version 2.1.1.561 Hehe, had a funny feeling you was to comment the sil's Yes some are, Have 4 on a sil3114, and 7 on sil3132 esata connected via 2 esata cabinets. 6 on the mainboard. Mainboard is a evga 680i with a intel core2 quad. 8gb ram, with the 2 silcards. Im sure the sils are to blame for much trouble, but its not the cause here, or atleast hasnt been until now. It has been working along time (i think it was installed 4 years ago), this happened just recently. Ive talked to you before (not long ago) regarding a lisencing matter and i told you then that ive been having alot of bsod's. You offered kindly to check my dumpfiles I didnt send them...tho And what happened in the end here, was a restore of a system image, that seemed to work ok, deleting of all the backups etc. (this was an accident, heh) So now im stuck with the current, or a reinstall. This really shouldn't happen, and they do so up "eventuall". However, that it's causing the shares to disappear is .... unusual as well. Normally, once you've restarted the service, the shares will come back. But if they're completely gone, ... something is going wrong. In this case, could you run "fsmgmt.msc" after a boot and see if it lists any shares in the "Shares" section. If it's not .... then I would recommend running "sfc /scannow" on the system. Sfc found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them, and the log is greek to me, sorry And no. No antivirus Ill try something tomorrow to see if the pool itself lags behind. 0 Christopher (Drashna) Posted March 23, 2015 Share Posted March 23, 2015 The fact that SFC found some corrupted files and were unable to fix them.... this is more than likely the cause of the issues that you were seeing. In the future, if this fails again, then you should be able to run "dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restore" to fix the image (this downloads the replacement files from Windows Update, IIRC). But regardless, I'm glad to hear that you've resolved/fixed the issue. If you need anything else or have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
