Hard drives not powering down

MaartenBout

Question

I've been testing the DrivePool (Trail) for a couple of days now since I moved from WHS v1 to WHS 2011. So far, it offers all I need.

The only thing is that my hard drives in the pool (3x 2TB) are not powering down when not used for 15 minutes.
I'm not sure why this is, but I guess the balancer keeps balancing.

Because even when I'm not accessing my server files, I see constant reads at the Pool Performance (100 KB/s to about 3 MB/s)

Is this caused by the balancing, or is the software indexing or something similar?

If you're seeing any activity through the Pool Performance section that means a program outside of DrivePool is accessing the pool.

Access caused by balancing or duplication is not listed in the Pool Performance section at all.

So the question is what do you have set up to use the pool?

In fact, if you're using WHS2011, then then Windows Search may be indexing the pool.
