How does the drive making work?

Hyd

Question

So I would like to mount my google drive did the encrypted option, set it to 50TB just for giggles and it seem to take it just fine, my issue was that it looked like it was uploading 50 TB of nothing to set up the drive?

Does it do that for not encrypted drives also, I can't really swing that much initial bandwidth all at once if so

No, it doesn't upload all of that data.

However, when you do create the drive, it does initialize, partition and format the drive.  Windows also creates a number of default folders ("$RECYCLE.BIN", "System Volume Information"), and there is the internal data structures for the disk.

These do get uploaded, as well as the disk info (disk size, chunk size, and other info).

It should be a relatively small amount of data.
