Can I create shares the normal way on Windows Server after pooling drives?

Sonicmojo

Question

I am about to start my first testing of Drivepool on a fresh install of Windows Server 2012R2. This new server will replace an aged old Windows Server 2008 box we have been using for the past 5 years.

For the new build I plan to install 16tb of new space pooled via Drivepool. Also key to the build is the ability to send data from the pool to our Crashplan account. Since the current backup layout there is a tad complex I need to maintain as much of the old "share" layout as possible.

So once I "pool" the drives via Drivepool, will Windows Server think I have a 16tb drive installed and let me create shares using the Server share wizard etc?

I really need to ensure all new shares have as close to the same permissions etc as they do now on the old server.

Appreciate an info on how this handled.

Cheers

Yes, exactly.

It should show up as a normal drive, which you can then share, as per normally.

Though, I'd recommend running "fsmgmt.msc", as this allows for an easier time creating shares.

You can set the share permissions and the NTFS permissions as you would normally.
