Can I temporarily shut down the computer during duplication?

You can absolutely shut it down. There is no problem doing so.

 

Once the system starts back up, it will continue with the duplication task.

 

 

 

And specifically, when copying the files, we use a "COPYTEMP" file. Once the file is copied completely, then we rename it.
This way, if you need to shut down the system, or otherwise interrupt the process (eg a BSOD), there is no harm done to your files.
