Moving from Windows 8.1 to Server 2012 r2

Quigongentoo

Question

My file/plex/torrent server runs Windows 8.1 Pro and I want to put Server 2012 r2 on it.  Im using Drivepool and Stablebit now with an 8 drive setup pooled into 18TB.  I have a very extensive collection of media on this machine in the pool.  My question is:  Is there a specific way I should go about installing the new OS, as I do not want to loose any of my data?  I would suppose there is something I should do with Drivepool before formatting the OS drive, or can I just unplug the drives and install the new OS?  I just want to be sure I do this correctly the first time.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Nothing special really. But let me outline it anways:

  1. Deactivate the license.
  2. Power down the system.
  3. Disconnect the pooled drives.
  4. Power on and reinstall the system.
  5. Install DrivePool and reconnect the drives (order of this doens't matter).
  6. Activate DrivePool.

You may need to do some "juggling" to get the shares to work properly.

But mainly, just move or create the shares on the Pool, and then move the file into those shares.

Thank you for your response.  I kind of figured it would be this easy, however, I wanted to be sure to do it correctly.
