Unexpected Transfer Keys

Freddi

Question

I apologize if this has been asked several times, and i'm too dumb to get the search engine to spit me the threads.

Short Summary:

Long time Scanner and Pool user.  Very happy with the products, have successfully revamped my pool several times in the past, adding drives, removing drives, Etc.  I have not made any changes to the pool in months.  Have not changed the Hardware for several years.

Was having trouble with a application complaining about not being able to write files, not having access.  Through a process of searching why everything was marked 'read only' by Drivepool (normal, as I now know), I opened the Drivepool app, and it immediately asked me to transfer my key.  I did, and all started working normally.  This prompted me to open Scanner, and the same operation was required.  It also started working normally.

Long and short:

I'm good, everything is operating normally.  I'm left wondering what triggered the need for the licensing to be pet again. Did i delete a file somewhere?  Did the programs *think* i changed hardware?  Is this anything to worry about, or am I gonna have to do this periodically?  (I haven't had to do it in years of operation)

Thanks for your insight, and let me know if there is any more information you need to give me advice.

I had the same when i updated the bios of the pc - apparently there are some things DP etc checks for to see if the PC has "changed" - not sure what the others might be but Chris will chip in soon to advise.

FWIW i updated the ssd bios on a couple of disks yesterday and that did not trigger a "transfer key" event

That's it.  Notice I said I didn't make pool changes, or change any hardware.  (I didn't).  It didn't occur to my the name of the PC would be used in Key verification, so the two didn't even connect in my pea brain.

I'll stop doing that, and stop worrying that I had a bigger problem.  :0 thanks to both of you!
