"Error Adding Drive": cannot add the same disk to the pool twice

Vittorio Zamparella

Question

I copied the topic title from another post because I have the same problem but 5 years later.

My drivepool used to work fine, then unnoticedly the second drive fell out of the drivepool. I guess the first drive was big enough not to cause me any evident problem for a while.
I had the problem with version 2.3.8, but I unistalled and tried with 2.3.7, resetting the settings and had the same result.
I emptied the poolpart, and thouroghly deleted it, but this second drive still is identified as already being in the pool.

Can you guide me to resetting the thing? Thank you.

That's very concerning that a drive "fell out" un-noticed, as the pool (is supposed to) turn read-only when a drive goes missing.

Please try each of the following (that you haven't already):

  1. Remeasured the pool (Manage Pool -> Remeasure)
  2. Entered the command "dpcmd refresh-all-poolparts" in a command prompt run as administrator.
  3. Reset the DrivePool settings as per this https://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_DrivePool_Q2299585B (read carefully; try the Alternative Steps if necessary).

If none of the above work, I would recommend opening a support ticket with StableBit so they can figure out what is going on.

Thank you very much for your support!

Actually the pool went unwritable but at the time I didn't realize what was the culprit. After a while checking here and there I noticed that the second drive was not in the pool anymore, but I guess a reboot made the pool writeable again, although without the second drive.

I already tryed all your sugestions except the the Alternative Steps, since they felt redundant.
I will try and report, but I have to wait for dropbox finish a long sync and give me some peace of mind of saving all my important data. After that I'll be able to even erase everything and start over.

It worked!
I did three things:

I evacuated my poolpart.uuid folder (moving content to another folder)

Deleted everything in C:\ProgramData\StableBit DrivePool\Service\Store\Json.

Deleted everything in %AppData%\StableBit DrivePool

I think what made it was the last step because I had already reset the settings from withing the gui and I think that has to do with the configuration store in Json folder.

Now I'm adding my data back. Hopefully everything will go smooth from now on.
Thank you!
