Mass drive removal

Dane

Question

So I decided to remove 5 out of 10 drives from my pool (old 2TB greens) and I noticed something I thought was strange.  Even though I have 5 drives marked for removal drivepool seems to be moving data onto the drives marked for removal.  Not sure if this is suppose to be happening or not.  If so I guess this would be a suggestion for future update to have it stop using drives marked for removal. Not that this negatively affects the pool, it just adds a huge amount of time when drivepool has to repeatedly remove the same data from each drive.

Hmmm,

I suspect that's normal, and will have to confirm.

And if that's the case, it may be that the removal code isn't aware of the queued disks, and that would be an issue that needs addressing.

And in the meanwhile, you can use the "Drive Usage Limiter" balancer to clear out these drives. Just uncheck both the "duplicated" and "unduplicated" option for the disks in question. This will definitely accomplish what you want.
