File restore in Server 2012e with Drivepool

SteveB

Question

Does anyone know, what is the method to restore file(s) in Windows Server 2012 essentials backup when using Drivepool?  I am trying to restore 2 files which were accidently overwritten.  Because I have almost 20TB of data in a pool consisting of 12 drives it becomes a tedious task to open each volume (physical drive) to search for the files.  Particularly since you have to wait for the server to become available (which is rare since it is always backing up 8 pc's and over 30TB of data.)  It seems there must be a better way to do this?

There isn't a good way to do this really.

If the drives are indexed by Windows Search, that may make it easier (they ... should be, in theory).

Otherwise, upgrade to the latest beta build (2.2.0.659) and use the DP-CMD utility.

specifically, run "dpcmd check-pool-fileparts x: 4 > output.txt" on the system, and then search the text file for the files in question. That should list the volume in question, and the PoolPart.xxxxx folder they reside in.
