Scanner showing bad sectors

dboy

Question

One of the drives in my server (WHS2011, with Scanner and DrivePool v1) is a seagate 3TB that I pulled from an external drive and installed internally.

Scanner is showing 3 bad sectors on it.

1. The bad sectors have been showing for weeks, is there a way for them to quit making WHS's Alert panel show red?

2. I've run SeaTools, and it passes every test seatools has with no errors.

3. Seagate.com shows the drive is under warranty for another 3 weeks. Is a couple bad sectors enough to get it replaced?

4. Will the fact that it is a drive pulled from an external matter?

  1. You should be able to delete the alert. If not, let us know.
  2. You can reset the status of the damaged sectors, which will rescan them:

    http://beta.stablebit.com/Support/Scanner/2.X/Manual?Section=Disk%20Scanning%20Panel

  3. Generally, not really. :(

You may be able to "game the system" by doing the advanced replacement. But I wouldn't recommend it.

  4. Yes. If the drive is from an external enclosure (such as the Seagate Backup Plus, or Seagate Expansion externals), then removing the drive physically from the enclosure actually voids the warranty. :(
