  1. Hello! I just purchased all three products for my Windows-based NVR (cameras). Looks great! I have been using 2x 4 TB hard drives (data originally resided here). Recently I purchased a 12 TB hard drive. I added all three drives to a drive pool. I then used robocopy to copy the data from the 4 TB drives into the drive pool. The files are now copied, so I'd now like to to erase the 2x 4 TB hard drives so they can be fully utilized in the drive pool. Should I just delete the folders and remove the drive letters? If I format the drive, will it erase any hidden areas of the drive that DrivePool depends on? Does DrivePool use areas of the drive that we can't "see" without DrivePool? I don't see separate partitions so I'm assuming this is the case. I just didn't want to erase something if it would mess up DrivePool. Thank you! Loving the software!
  2. While I'm not sure exactly when this happened, all of my disk location with the case/bay information appears to have been lost. I'm running 2.5.3216 (website says 2.5.4.3216, but programs and features reports 2.5.3216) on Windows 10. Is this a known issue? I've got like 10-12 disks on this machine, and what's worse is that I don't think I actually have this information easily available without taking stuff offline. Not the end of the world, but obviously inconvenient. I actually have a full system backup going back 2 weeks, 6 months, and almost a year.....is that data stored somewhere, like in a config file? Why do you think this might have happened? An upgrade to a newer version fails to preserve it? Is this a symptom described here in the release notes: I use mount points like c:\array\diskxyz within Windows 10. Can I fix this? Thanks, Keith
  3. Hello, So there was a power outage today, the UPS shutdown the VM host which the has a 2012 R2 VM that runs Drive Pool, The Drive pool is made up of one local drive and 2 iscsi shares to seperate Netgear NAS systems All on the UPS However once the power came back on and everything booted i was greeted with the attached picture showing the 900GB drive completely empty. in drive pool it was showing the drive as normal but now 200mb/900GB used. The other drive im still waiting to come back up from disk scanning, Running Recuva i can see the files are infact still on the iscisi and have not been overwritten but in windows and drivepool the files have just vanished... what is going on here? is there anyway i can restore the drive in the pool properly, It is almost like it has just dumped the data and readded a fresh drive to the pool Please help
  4. Hello everyone: Not sure if this is the correct Forum for this, but I just wanted to let you all know about what I consider to be a fantastic deal on some 4TB Drives at Newegg. Drashna, you can move it if you need to. To save everyone’s time, I’ll just give you the stats: · Brand: Toshiba · Model: MD04ACA400 (Bare Drive) · Capacity: 4TB · Size: 3.5” · Speed: 7200RPM · Connection: SATA 6.0Gb/s · Cache: 128MB · Warranty: 5-Years from Toshiba · Seller: Newegg · Item Number: N82E16822149644 (Newegg) · Shipping: Free, 3-Day Fed-Ex · Price: $93.49 (That’s $23.37 per TB, Delivered!) IMPORTANT: When you do a Search for the drive on Newegg’s site, do so using only the Newegg Item Number. The drive does not come up with an ordinary search, but the same model from GoHardDrive.com DOES come up for $93.00 or so with a 3-year warranty. If you want, you can just try this direct link to the Newegg offering: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822149644 Newegg says they are discounting the drive from $205.99 (55%). I found the Newegg offering quite by chance after I had to return BOTH the drives I purchased from GoHardDrive.com due to numerous bad sectors right out of the package. ALSO, the GoHardDrive units have Manufacturing dates 18-24 Months ago and GoHardDrive is providing the warranty themselves. The Newegg drives I purchased were made in Feb, 2018. I just finished running them through extensive testing and they are both in Perfect 100% Health with no errors at all. I have verified the 5-Year warranty by Serial Number directly on Toshiba’s website. Here’s the link for that (not easy to find): https://myapps.taec.toshiba.com/myapps/admin/jsp/webrma/addRequest1NoLogin.jsp?Action=NEW These seem to be good quality drives. When I bought them, Newegg was advertising them as Enterprise Drives. I already knew they weren’t however and I bought them anyway. 5-Years is a SUPERB Warranty! Now in the new listing, they dropped “Enterprise” and just say “Good for Servers”. Hope I’m not wasting your time. I did do a search on the Forum to make sure no one had already said something and I didn’t see anything. If you’re interested, don’t dally on it. Enough people already do know about them that they are selling like crazy. Newegg told me they are already on their second order of 10,000 drives! Hope this helps someone, GDog
  5. Hi there, I saw a previous thread about putting a damaged disk back into the pool, but my question is slightly different... I have a disk that StableBit Scanner says has some damage. It's a small amount of damage vs. the whole disk, but of course, it's part of a big file, so that's likely toast. What happens now? What happens with DrivePool when a bad file is either "fixed" or becomes corrupt? Does the bad file get replicated to other pool members? Or does DrivePool figure out the disk has damage and overwrites the bad file? Should I leave the bad file in place (rename it so it stays put over the bad disk area) and copy a good file over to that folder? I've run chkdsk /f /b on the drive a few times (it takes around 18 hours), and Scanner is trying to "recover" the file - but I think that's going to fail. If chkdsk has done its process on some bad sectors, is the drive OK for a while? Or will DrivePool keep trying to write back to those sectors? Thanks...
  6. Hello, I recently started upgrading my 3TB & 4TB disks to 8TB disks and started 'removing' the smaller disks in the interface. It shows a popup : Duplicate later & force removal -> I check yes on both... Continue 2 days it shows 46% as it kept migrating files off to the CloudDrives (Amazon Cloud Drive & Google Drive Unlimited). I went and toggled off those disks in 'Drive Usage' -> no luck. Attempt to disable Pool Duplication -> infinite loading bar. Changed File placement rules to populate other disks first -> no luck. Google Drive uploads with 463mbp/s so it goes decently fast; Amazon Cloud Drive capped at 20mbps... and this seems to bottleneck the migration. I don't need to migrate files to the cloud at the moment, as they are only used for 'duplication'... It looks like it is migrating 'duplicated' files to the cloud, instead of writing unduplicated data to the other disks for a fast removal. Any way to speed up this process ? CloudDrive: 1.0.0.592 BETA DrivePool: 2.2.0.651 BETA
  7. Hello everyone! I'm new here trying to do as much research as I can before purchase. I'm liking all the information I've seen on the main site, manual, and the forums/old forums. I think I've caught a little information off Reddit to push me here. I'm hoping for loads of information and maybe this will help MANY people in the long run on what to do. So first off on the topic string. I would like to use StableBit's products only. So in doing so I gathered some can's and can not's. That the Drivepool with Scanner are a pair made to secure any deal. But I'm also worried about parity. My current pool is: 5x4TB Seagates 2x3TB Seagates The purpose of my pool is family movies / music and pictures. Besides the music and pictures being of small size, the movies range from 400MB-16GB. Here's some Reddit research that even put me on the research run about StableBit products. Ok in this I was told that : 1. Drivepool offers redundancy via duplication 2. Creator of StableBit products has a Youtube vLog channel (Couldn't find it but found Stablebit.com's and only had two videos no vLogs) 3. One user that spoke so highly of StableBit products (Has owned it for 4-5 years now) 4. Drivepools duplication works via client setting the folders or subfolders. To be duplicated 2x,x3 so on. I was confused on the duplication settings. And if there is a parity for at least one HDD failure or more depending on settings. I really love the way these products looks, the active community and the progressiveness of the Covecube staff for their products! I need to really strongly put it out here that I would really rather use StableBit's products less programs running and wouldn't have to worry about which one is or isn't causing problems. This is a two part thread so this is the end of the first research part. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now for the second part of the researching. I've seen this in a few places doing a StableBit Drivepool for pooling the drives with FlexRaid (Raid-F) for the parity set up. But mostly using all the programs from StableBit where as setting and forgetting "almost" the FlexRaid setup. Here's the research I've dug up well what I could. Oddly I found a couple hints on the Flexraid forums but nothing saying where it was on the forums or what to search for or anything. So most of it was on the old Covecube forums that are read only. I would put links but I think I'll just select the little information I need so this thread doesn't get kicked. And the second part. Ok I read the information on the first thread above and that it talking about how it was possible. Saitoh183 posted a few times on that thread with more information on Drivepooling and Flexraiding. Goes through making sure everyone knows that you lose one or more drives (largest or equal size of a every drive"Not put together") for a parity disk or a PPU so called. In the second quote of research it is a small thread "explaining" how to setup the both of them. I know and understand that Saitoh183 said "It doesn't matter in which order you set them up. DP just merges your drives, Your performance comes from DP and Flexraid doesn't affect it. Flexraid is only relevant for performance if you were using the pooling feature of it. Since you aren't, the only performance you will see is when your parity drive is being updated. Also dont forget to not add your PPU to the pool" I know from what Saitoh183 it doesn't matter. But I figured you would make the StableBit Drivepool setup the drive letter. Now going to the FlexRaid: 1. Add new configuration 2. Name Cruise Control with Snapshot and Create 3. Open the new configuration to edit and open Drive Manager 4. Add the DRU's (Data drives) and one or more PPU for parity backup's (Snapshots) I've read a few setup guides and I've heard 1 PPU drive for every 6 and I've heard 1 PPU drive for every 10 both are fine. 5. Initialize the raid if data is on the DRU's it will now do a parity snapshot, now back to the home page for the named configuration and Start Storage Pool. Not sure what else to after that if it's even right. I don't think the FlexRaid should have a drive letter or it would make things more confusing than it already is using two programs. Please enlighten my with any information that can help this research that will help with my purchase and hopefully more people that decide to do this setup also. I would like to firstly so I appreciate everyone up front for there past help with others to even get me here with this information! Thanks again. Techtonic
  8. I have searched for this and found it to be a problem, but I am not able to find some help for what is going on with my situation. I have 4 drives (2, 2TB, 2, 4TB), on WHS 2011 using drivepool ver 1.3.6.7585, all the drives are using around 70% capacity (average) The only thing wrong with the drive is a head parking count, but scanner or home server smart is not projecting any failure. I tagged one of the 2TB drives for removal and it is not showing any progress at all after 20 hours. if I go into "drives" it shows that is has a remaining capacity of 700GB, in "removing" status and this has been like that the entire time. I have found that I can tell the pool not to use the drive in advanced settings, but now I have to stop the removal process to do that. I need some help here... What should I do? Should I stop the process and then tell the pool not to use the drive? (I don't know how to stop the removal process) I just don't think it's actually working because it's not showing any progress and the drives are not getting any warmer indicating they are working hard. Please help, thank you
  9. First, thanks in advance for a really well-managed support forum - it speaks well of both the product and the community. Didn't find this scenario in the existing content: I would like to upgrade one of my smaller pooled drives to a larger version. If I clone the existing drive (so, same label, same content, just appears a lot bigger) - will DrivePool remain blissfully unaware (and take on the new space automagically)? It'd be done offline. Thanks!
