hey guys im considering my new board and cpu (loving the xeon V3 1275 socket 1150. my ? is will 16 pci express lanes be enough for the lsi 8 port sata 3.0 raid card and down the road possibly an intel 24 port expander card or will I need a chip with more lanes like these new 28 lane and 40 lane I7 monsters on socket 2011 V3

Ive been setting my pool as the A: drive.... beats a 3.5 floppy LOL

pool is fixed I had to delete all data and recreate pool after a format with zeros with wd diag but I think it was more data corruption than anything else ill transfer data back to pool tomorrow
still gonna look at getting a new hdd or 2 for the pool but that scared me
thank god for external backup

scaned my green drive with wd diag and all passed...
now im having it do a full erase and write zeros to entire drive yay lets wait 3.5 hrs and see what happens...

ok I did another test I can play music from my usb 2.0 external hard drive connected to the server. just cant play anything from the pool...my worst ear is ill lose both 1 TB drives at same time... im running all drives through scanner...
I lost the wd red drive again... waiting to rma it with wd

I can also play music if I copy the folder from the pool to the SERVER SSD windows desktop.
im running a WD 1 TB Black 1002 series sata 3 at 6.0gb/s
and a 1TB WD green WD10-EACS

having a very weird hard drive issue? I have about 200gb of music on my drivepool and if I try to play anything off the pool I get an error stating the drive is "in use" if I copy the album to my local hard drive it plays fine... any ideas
please tell my im not loosing my entire pool of drives

1275v3 is rated at 3.5ghz 8MB cache at I believe 84 watts power

im liking xeon ... thought about overclocking but not required.... I wanna no that wwhen I spend 300 + my server is set with its cpu for awhile no matter what I throw at it.

or consider the I7-4790K 4.0GHZ $339.99
I7 is unlocked and overclockable but ill be running server 24/7

did some testing and I think as much as I hate to admit it win 10 is the problem. so im gonna reload to win 8 enterprise 90 day eval as a test and see what happens. if it fixes all issues ill wait till launch and buy a copy of the final win 10 pro...

every time I tell win 8.1 PRO to play a basic mp3 from my pool my laoptop goes complete blue and softcrashes and the within 30 sec goes back to my desktop like I just booted machine clean.
if I play same Mp3 on the same laptop with a clean win 10 preview install media player plays flawless....
my experience so far win 10 Alpha version DESTROYS WIN 8.1 on my hp laptop

should I change ram from basic Samsung Bs to gaming ram?
cant go beyond 16gb but I love my gskill in my desktop......

im having better stability and ease of use with 10 preview over 8.1

the io boost helped a lil but it was my Mcafee (BS internet security) I disabled iTunes protection and I think its fixed no more voice lag. it was like seeing lips move before the voice came out. but seems fixed now

quick ? for all? I got my server up with my amd phenom 2 945 deneb @3.0ghz I have 16gb ddr 3 1600 ram Kingston 120gb ssd on server as os drive
1 1tb wd red 2.5 in 1 tb , 1 1Tb wd green 3.5 inch and 1 1TB WD black 3.5 inch
server is connected via 1000mb wire and my laptop is wireless through a wireless N gateway
any reason my movie should studder or be jerky through playback?
also does the servers Video make a difference when playing a movie from my mapped pool drive?
I set my servers onboard Video card to 32 MB. but system is showing a 8 gb virtual vid ram

After trying a lot of windows servers (2008 r2, 2012essentials , and server 10 preview) im sticking with win 10 workstation preview for my server.. fits my needs best for ease of use and stability

well as I don't have 2012 r2 yet I may wait for server 10 I saw a gui pic and it looks like the reg win 10 im running and I like my reg start menu
btw if I reload my server now that I registered drivepool can I just deactivate the software and reactivate once I reload server 10? and my data should stay safe correct?
I had no issues when I reloaded when my red drive died but just double checking???

im gonna take the SERVER plunge for windows 10 if I like I may purchase this and run it with drive pool / scanner. im expecting support for my upgraded XEON server.. yay cant wait to think a Xeon 1275v3 and 32 GB ddr 3 2400 ram on a ssd should be slightly fast.
