uberpixel
I have a relatively fresh install of WHS2011 and I am trying to add a new folder to the pool in Drivepool. To add a folder I've tried the following: Open WHS2011 dashboard Go to Server Folders and Hard Drives Tab Server Folders Tab Select "Add a Folder" or "Add a Folder to the Pool" from Server Folder Tasks on right side (same results for either options) Add a folder window pops up with dialog that it is "Adding the folder..." but then nothing happens. It just hangs. I notice the same behavior if I try to rename a folder (not a WHS default folder). Any thoughts on how to fix this?-uberpixel
0 Christopher (Drashna)
Do you have any antivirus, backup or disk tools installed on the server? And list the results of this: http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_DrivePool_Q2159701 Are all of the disks in the pool in good health? And could you enable file system logging and reproduce the issue? 0 uberpixel
I should say - while healthy, one of the drives in the pool reports that it is completely full and is unable to rebalance due to duplication settings. I intend to add another bare drive tonight but want to make sure my install is healthy before I do anything more. -uberpixel
0 Christopher (Drashna)
Actually, if you have a completely full drive, that could be the cause here. When NTFS gets completely full "weird things happen", basically. Hopefully, that's the cause. However, I've flagged the issue for Alex (the developer), so that he can take a detailed look at the logs. From the text logs, there are a lot of duplication consistency check errors, which you've already verified. 0 uberpixel
I added another drive and still have the same problem. It's currently duplicating. Once it's done duplicating I'll restart and try adding a folder again. I can't rename, add, or change the description of the folders in the pool... -uberpixel
0 Christopher (Drashna)
Can you see if you can rename/add/change the directories on the pool directly? And worst case, can you run "fsmgmt.msc" and see if you can add a share using that interface?
0 uberpixel
Can you see if you can rename/add/change the directories on the pool directly? And worst case, can you run "fsmgmt.msc" and see if you can add a share using that interface? Pool is now healthy (duplicated and balanced) but I still can't add/modify shared folders from the dashboard. I assume by "directly" you meant by using Windows Explorer. I tried that and successfully added and shared a folder. It shows up as a shared network folder on my client and on the server in Windows Explorer but does not show up in the dashboard even after a full restart. Next I tried the fsmgmt.msc to add a share. It allowed me to add the share - shows up in Windows Explorer. Does not show up in the dashboard. Tried a full restart - now the dashboard will not show anything other than "Refreshing the list of items" for both the "Server Folders" and "Hard Drives" tabs... Not cool. Pool tab shows the pool as before. Files are still intact but the dashboard is hosed. Do you want me to send a fresh log file now that the duplication issue has been resolved? -uberpixel
0 Christopher (Drashna)
I was afraid of that. This sounds like an issue with the "Windows Server Solutions" code (the WHS code), and not actually related to StableBit DrivePool. However, if you could grab the logs from "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Server\Logs", I can take a look at it, and see if I can find anything wrong. In the meanwhile, you may want to run "chkdsk c: /r" (which will require a reboot and a few hours), and you may want to run "sfc /scannow" (this checks the integrity of the system files and will redownload files if needed). Additionally, if you have a backup of the system from before it started doing this, it may be a good idea to restore from the backup. 0 uberpixel
Hmm... Server backup only goes back a couple of days. I can at least recover from the recent setback but probably not far enough back to resolve the initial problem. Logs have been sent. Thanks for taking a look. -uberpixel
0 uberpixel
FYI - I deleted the new shares I added via Windows Explorer and can now see my drives and shares via the dashboard. Still can't add/rename/etc from the dashboard... -uberpixel
0 Christopher (Drashna)
What version of StableBit DrivePool are you using specifically? Also, I'm seeing a lot of WCF errors in your logs. These are a subset of .NET API's, so that could definitely be the problem here. Running the .NET Repair tool may fix the issue: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30135 However, it could also make the issue worse (as WHS2011 is heavily dependant on .NET Framework). "sfs /scannow" could also help here.... but honestly, I'd recommend reinstalling the OS, as this really does sound like the system is corrupt.
