Oooohhhh, you're talking about a card with eSATA ports.  Unfortunately, that's something way above my pay grade, as I've never fiddled with eSATA stuff.  Maybe Chris might know something.  Perhaps try using whatever driver Server 2022 pulls down for it instead of the Tempo driver?

Server 2022 doesn't even see it and mark it as unknown.

    I just ordered: StarTech.com 2 Port SATA 6 Gbps PCI Express eSATA Controller Card - Storage Controller - 2 Channel - eSATA 6Gb/s - 6 Gbit/s - PCIe - PEXESAT32

and StarTech.com PCIe USB 3.1 Card - 2x USB C 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) - PCIe Gen 3 x4 - ASM3142 Chipset - USB Type C PCI Express Card (PEXUSB312C3) just in case I will go the USB Type C route. However, I am really hoping that the new eSATA controller work.

Does anyone here have any experience with StarTech eSATA?

No, I'm still a way aways from getting the Sabrent (if I get it at all).  Your situation sounds really different, though.  You're running a Sonnet what?  Are you using an external enclosure of some sort?

Yes I am running 2 Mobius 5 Bay Enclosures connected to the Tempo Sata Pro 6Gb 4-port, port multiplier. It worked great on my old Windows Server 2016 but I recall I had to jump through some hoops to get it working but I can't remember the steps. It is not working at all on my Windows Server 2022. It is very frustrating because my Server 2016 backup is corrupted, so I am all in on Server 2022.

Ugh, you're killing me, man, just killing me.  I really had my heart set on that thing.

SUPPOSEDLY, the enclosure presents drives to Windows as if they were directly connected to an HBA and/or the motherboard itself.  I don't think it even requires additional drivers.  I don't know what sort of demon sacrifices it's performing in order to do that over a simple USB cable, but if it's true, you'd still have doubts?

I won't be using it in a (software) RAID configuration.  JBoD is the most my arthritic brain can handle.  RAID is like forcing me to use a third pedal in my automatic car.

Did you set this up? I am having all kinds of issues with my Sonnet Tempo Sata PCIe card. I just upgraded to Windows Server 2022 and it is only seeing 2 of my 10 drives, 1 from each 5 bay tower. I need a replacement solution asap.

    1. Manually move all files to the outside of the poolpart.xxx folder on the bad disk so that drivepool can't see them any more.
    2. Remove the old disk from DrivePool (it will be instantly complete since the poolpart folder is empty).

    3. Insert new disk (new different PoolPart.xxx is created).
    4. Manually copy the files from the old disk to the new poolpart folder on the new disk.

I found out by doing this i didn't get BSOD compared to moving the disk using DP

Above is why i think the BSOD is related to drivepool, what i'm worried about if one my drives go bad then it would just throw random BSOD and screw up my OS

    Which service do I shutdown?

  5. I am having the same problem removing a drive.  I am running it on Server 2016 OS. It blue screens about 45% through the removal process. I have a new drive that I want to replace it with. I wonder if I could copy the files from the existing drive to the new drive and swap them.  Will that work?

  6. Have you ever rebooted during this time? IIRC, when I uninstaled 2.x to go back to 1.x the de-installation was not succesfull but completed still after reboot (and the same happened going back to 2.x).

Also, you could check which services are running to determine the actual version that is. But try reboots first after each attempt to uninstall/install.

    Yes, I rebooted.

For whatever reason, it seems like your server has lost the original installer file (that second image is what indicates this). This would be why it's not letting you uninstall it.

Download the matching version that you have. It should be a WSSX file. Rename it to ".cab" instead. This should allow you to open the file. You should see three (maybe more) files in it. An RTF file, an XML file, and a MSI Installer file. Grab this MSI file, and copy it to the server's desktop. Then right click on it and select "Uninstall".  This should allow you to uninstall the program.

If you need help with this, head to http://meetme.so/drashnacovecube and schedule a time for a remote support session, and I'll see about getting this fixed for you.

Thanks, I will give it a go once I get home!

  7. I am having trouble uninstalling Drivepool 1.3.6.7585 from WHS 2011 in order to upgrade to Drivepool 2.1.1.561.  I removed it from addin but I cannot uninstall from the control panel uninstaller.

When trying to install Drivepool 2.1.1.561 I get the following error:

    Setup Failed...

When I go to control panel + uninstall I get the following error:

The installed product does not match the installation source(s):.....

I also tried re-installing Drivepool 1.3.6.7585 but I get the following error:

    post-392-0-25207300-1425744596_thumb.jpg

Is there a way to completely remove 1.3.6.7585 by using the registry?  I am in need of a solution as my server is completely useless without drive pool.  Please help!

  8. I removed a fairly new 2TB Western Digital WD20EADS from my pool because scanner reported that it was damaged but when I ran WD's DLGDIAG Extended test everything was fine.  I re-installed the drive back into the pool and nothing appears to be wrong.  Any explanation for this?

  9. Ok, I finally got around to finishing my troubleshooting of my setup and it turned out to be my rocketraid 2314 card.:(  Luckily I had a backup Addonics (ADS3GX4R5-E), the bad news is that it has a PCI bus, which I was all out of.  I had to drive a country mile to microcenter to pick up a PCIe1X usb 4 port card, so I could swap some cards around.  My Pool is re duplicating now, around 40% but all looks good so far.

Thanks everyone for their help and suggestions.

  10. I didn't a chance to try the cable, due to not wanting to screw with wire-ties when I got home last night; cable management is good but not when trying to diagnose a problem.  Wow Drashna you are my hero you should do a setup guide at wegotserved for your Norco 4220. :)

  11. Dust and stuff... I live in an area that everything gets dusty, so I have to clean out my server and other computers every six months.

As for burning out cables... There isn't a cable type that I haven't burned out at least once. that includes SATA cables, cat5(e), and even Coax. :P

You must live in the midwest or Arizona, lol.  I cannot wait to get home, so do you agree it is not likely one port on either the sata card or 8 bay case?

  12. Check your power connections make sure all the pins are intact I had a similar problem when 1 of my connections on a lead was faulty

I would also power it all down and give it all a good clean sometimes connections can get a little grubby and don't always make a sound connection.

It is very rare for leads to become faulty once a sound connection has been made unless they get bent or knocked by accident there cheap enough to replace so its worth trying

    Thanks for the response.

Yea, I checked the one cable but I didn't notice any abnormalities but I am not a Sata cable expert.  Grubby? How can a cable that is inserted get grubby?  It is not like it's outside or near the ocean.

My server and cases are in a rack and don't suffer from bumping or moving in general.

  13. Ok, I don't think it is a problem with the software. I have 12 HDDs spread out over two sans digital 8 bay cases and oddly enough one side (4 bays) is not working now (the case lights are on but WHS2011 does not detect them nor does the raid card bios during the boot process).

I have tested the drives by pulling each one out and running dianostic tools on each drive and all passed.

Next I moved 4 drives to the 4 empty slots and WHS2011 and the raid card bios recognized all 12 drives.

IMO, this points to either the sata cable, one of the raid card ports, or one of the ports on the case is bad.  I will get a cable today and rule it out.

My questions are how often from personal experience does external sata cabling go bad?  How likely for only one port of a raid card or one port of an enclosure to go bad?
