sspell got a reaction from Christopher (Drashna) in Plans for ReFS support?
+1 on the ReFS support I'm converting a server to hyper-v core 2016 all disk are ReFS and using the latest drivepool beta. Storage pool by ms is such a convoluted mess. It works when set up but using feeder ssd and parity you have to be prepared for powershell. Besides I like more control with a ui that stablebit has just hate powershell can't remember all the commands and have to reference notes. The pool you can't see what's going on or move files to disk like the ui works with drivepool and of course the scanner that emails when there is a problem on individual disk and notifications from drivepool. You can set a script in powershell for storage pools but unless you're into maintenance and a lot of fiddlin well there you go. I like to leave it alone and it works just me. KISS of drive pool and scanner is great. Now for more ReFS support from stablebit drivepool will be good cause ReFS is the future and with 2016 latest versions it is pretty good. NTFS is on it way out the door Ha!.

Also I would not mind paying a little more for drivepool with the self healing properties from bit rot and corruption that a mirrored pool can have with ReFS.

sspell reacted to Christopher (Drashna) in Problems with Ordered File Placement plug-in
    Yes.

As for balancing, if you don't want stuff moved around at all... check the specific balancers.
The simplest way would be to disable ALL of the balancers but the Ordered File Placement Balancer plugin.

I say simpler, because the issue with the "Prevent Drive Overfill" balancer may be what was causing issues for you in the past (it sounds like it may have been the case).

Disabling all the but the one you want means that only IT will be used. And since it's the Ordered File Placement balancer, it will ensure that it's settings are the ONLY relavient ones, outside of the File Placement Rules.

    And speaking of which.
    http://dl.covecube.com/DrivePoolBalancingPlugins/OrderedFilePlacement/Notes.txt
Make sure that you set this, if you're using both the Ordered File Placement balancer and file placement rules.

Otherwise, ... well, you may notice issues. Which may be the case here. And sorry for not picking up on that earlier, as well.

sspell got a reaction from Dane in whs2011 to server2012 essentials
I've had a little time rebuilt a new gen2 with more os space and same issue. May be something in the boot order on the existing hard disk or security issues or what? Anyway it looks like a format and copy files to use gen2. The time this will take too long plus there is a 8 processor limit in vm anyway. So with these issues at hand wanting to take full advantage of the processors for the server decided to bare metal essentials and run whs2011 in vm. Hope this takes care of it will see soon. Let you know how the process goes.

    sspell got a reaction from Tardas-Zib in Asrock FM2A85X-ITX WHS2011 USB3.0
I know usb 3.0 can cause problems but I can't find a controller driver that works for the asrock fm2a85-itx motherboard and whs2011. This has the new Hudson d4 chip. So I guess this will be an issue till drivers are available. I tried the win 7 64bit drivers from asrock they have etron and asmedia. I don't know which this chipset uses but neither work and asrock documentation is lacking.

Any u guys use ultravnc just installed it on my machines. a lot more features than windows remote desktop connection and does not log off the machine u remote to. A big benefit to me over rdc. Not quite as snappy as rdc but pretty close. Seems pretty good let me know if u tried it or if u had any problems.

mrbiggles you pretty much shared my thoughts exactly. I always say keep it simple and that makes drive pool so nice it's simple and easy to work with and the per folder duplication has that in spades.

I hope to upgrade the two archive hard drives to 2 3tb WD Reds soon.
This has run rock solid so far.
Note: A few upgrades this is running great also with one exception. Yet to get usb 3.0 controller working seems to be a driver issue
