  1. I understand the thread is quite old but at least this solved my problem with the temp folder getting filled up, maybe it helps others: found on microsoft answers: Checking <windows>\Logs\CBS folder I found lots of .log and (some) .cab files It seems, that windows wasn't able to zip (makecab.exe) one of the .log files. Solution was: in <windows>\Logs\CBS folder delete the oldest .log file (you can also delete them all) in <windows>\temp folder delete every cab_xxxx in the following regeneration process, the remaining (CBS) logs where zipped correctly, and <windows>\temp was left clean
  2. Thanks for clarifing this for me. I guess it will not be worth the trouble. Will mostly write larger files with freefilesync to the pool. I can do that over night, no real need for speed, was just thinking to put that free ssd space to a better use. (might even consider replacing the system hdd back to a conventional drive..) With "over provisioning" I ment the function in the Samsung Magician software, where you can actually fiddele arround with the amount you wanna spare from the drive.
  3. Thanks, I think I will stay on v.1 for a while because it solved my problem with the Server Folders nicely and you know, never change a running system :-) (only thing I miss in v.1 is File Duplication on the Entire Pool, it seems I needed to switch each and every folder on) The duplicated files were definitely gone. Found the same folder on two drives, one empty, one full and harddisk freespace indicated there is only one copy left. Now after I switched folder duplication to yes, it started to duplicate again. So if you come from v.2 with File Duplication on and change to v1. it seems to get rid of the duplicated files..
  4. Hi, like the topic says, got a question about feeder disks... I use a Samsung 120GB ssd for the system disk (C:) and have WHS2011 installed. The WHS2011 occupies arround 24-30 GB right now, 10 % of the space is used for over provisioning, I would give the system another 25gb, that would leave me with something like 50gb free. Can I use that as a new partition in the pool for a feeder disk? Just as a landing zone? Will I gain something at all? Will it be worth the trouble? What would be the disadvantage? Thanks for feedback, Henning.
  5. Thanks a million! My mistake was, I used DrivePool v.2 because I figured v2 > v1 Now I see how well v1 is integrated to whs2011 and I love it :-) (on a side note: I uninstalled v2, installed v1. next thing happened is Drivepool deleted all the duplicated files and started the duplication process from scratch again? I don´t mind, but was a bit surprised..)
  6. Hi, I reinstalled Whs2011 and used a set of pooled drives. Drivepool (newest beta version) recognized the previous Pool and started checking. all seemed OK. Now I wasn´t able to move the Server Folders from C: (Samsung Evo) to P:\ (existing pool). I couldn´t see the Pool in the Dashboard/ ServerFolder & Hard Disk tab, but that might be OK because I mounted the pooled disks not with a driveletter. I got the Troubleshooter Software and it created the Server Folders. Great! I can write and read the folders. Now comes my problem. In the dashboard/ ServerFolder tab the free space shows as "unknown" and more annoying, I cant add a new folder in the pool with the "add folder" function in the dashboard. The error message is; the task "Add a folder" did not complete successfully. I have a backup disk not in the pool, and on that one I can create and add folders. I ran the troubleshooter again and reseted all the rights in the pool, but it didn´t help. I hope there is an easy fix, because the next step would be to create a new Pool... Thanks for any hints and advice, Henning.
  7. Hi, just wanted to make sure that Drivepool is behaving like it should. I Installed Drivepool on a WHS 2011 Miniserver, build a pool with one empty 4tb disk. Later i put a second disk with lots of data in the pool. Moved all files into the hidden pool folder and switched on "Enable File Duplication on the Entire Pool". Since then it continues to show me a message that it is "duplicating". It never stopps? Different percentages, yes, but it never says "all files duplicated"? Server runs now 5-6 days and I didn´t put new files on the pool, just messing with shared folders permissions etc.. Is this normal?
  8. that would be great, so much easier to find solutions in english.. I would also take a hack, like replacing a file or some... :-)
  9. Hi Shane, no the PC didn´t reboot. After a while Drivepool complained about an "inconsistency". Guess it is a couple of encrypted files which make problems here. After I rebooted and restarted the drivepool software, it says "checking pool" and the pool is really nicely organized across 4 disks. Only thing, the 1TB disk still holds 93 gb of unduplicated files (plus lots of duplicated content) and is part of the pool. No worries, this is only my playground and I think of just pulling the plug and using my backup. Just wanted to know how to remove the disk without worrying to lose files. Thanks for your reply, Henning.
  10. Hi. Maybe I am overlooking it but how do I change the UI Language in DrivePool to English? It got installed in a german OS but I prefer English. Thanks for a hint.
  11. Meanwhile I got an Duplication Warning (some files are encrypted or changed?) and now the program is "balancing" but ... the 1 TB Drive is still in the pool? Do I need to press "remove" again?
  12. Hi, I am new to this kind of software but am really excited to try things out. I set up a drive pool with 2 x 2TB and 1 x 1TB drives. All works great. I set a couple of folders to automatically duplicate. Thats the feature I really plan to use. Now I want to replace the 1TB with another 2TB drive. I formated the 2TB and added it to the pool. then I told the Drivepool software to remove the 1TB drive (it holds duplicated and not duplicated files) The software stated that it is "removing disk" - I thought "great" and went to sleep. Next morning the software says "remeasuring" but to my surprise the 1 TB drive is still shown in the pool? What do I miss? How can I safely remove the 1TB disk without losing files? There is enough space (new 2TB drive) Happy to get a hint on how to remove. (maybe there is also a faster way to arvchive that? Just moving files from hidden folder?) Thanks, Henning.
