Hello, I have had Drivepool for about a year now and have just installed a second copy on another physical machine. Each machine has ~12TB of data on it. is it possible to use CloudDrive to put the two pools together if data already exists on each? I am thinking of creating a 1TB cloud on machine ONE, pointing it to a Windows share on machine TWO. Then, I want to add the CloudDrive to to the pool on machine ONE... will that show me the existing data from TWO in the pool on ONE? Can the clouddrive be smaller than the data on TWO? Thanks for any help you can provide! TD

EDIT: Should make out I am pretty pleased with DrivePool but no software is perfect!! The "Other" category. I saw a nice post explaining how it's all the odds and ends etc but each of my HDDs seems to have 500Mb or more of this. Does DP do any cleaning of this junk? Does it also check or recreate missing Recycle bins? I am thinking that if it does then I might delete these and see if the recreated ones are less space used? It just seems that any good program should be as clean and tidy as it can be!!! DP doesn't seem to respect its own placement rules. I have a "scratch" HDD for most usage. But I see DP is doing downloads and other intensive actions on other HDDs not in the rules. DP also seems to create files on drives that the file placement rules say NO to... but with empty directories. I have manually remove such directories from all HDDs in the pool but they keep re-appearing. You don't see them of course as they are inside the hidden folders on each HDD but why create something that isn't needed? Also makes it harder to find where files physically are if you need to sort out a mess later. Could DP not have functionality to delete such empty directories it creates. Not directories that have been user created though as some people might need empty dirs or some programs look for them to store save files in. Q: Does DP have a universal recycle? If a network access user deletes a file from the pool is it totally gone or could it be moved to a temporary Bin that could either be manually or automatically/regularly emptied? Useful if your family accidentally hit Delete on that 10Tb "Videos" directory!!!!??? One nice feature on Flexraid (included in its Pool functionality) is the ability to mark the directory date with the date of the latest file created within it. Might not seem useful but it can be handy to be able to sort directories by file accessed date (your most active directories can be on top of list). Worth "borrowing"?

Hello, I'm pretty sure I'll be buying DP soon. Will either use duplication for protection, or SnapRAID. If I go with the former, and choose to use the plugin OrderedFilePlacement to disable balancing* and not make my HDDs spin all at once, then am I correct to assume that I will also need to think better about which HDDs I write to first. Consider the following scenarios: (I know it's an extreme one in terms of HDD-size difference) I currently have 1 x 8TB HDD and 2 x 2TB HDDs. This will basically mean that if I want file-duplication with balancing off, I'll have to make sure that I fill the 2TB HDD first, before I start writing to the 8TB HDD? This is because, if I write to the 8TB first, and then this drive fails, its contents are too big for the 2 x 2TB HDDs to hold even with file duplication on. (12/2 = 6 TB, which is > 2 x TB HDDs). Will I have to worry about stuff like that if I turn off balancing? I don't want to spin 2-3 HDDs just to play a movie file. Note: I'm new to the concept of pooling and even newer to that of RAID so your patience is appreciated! * That's what it does, right?
