So I looked this up before buying Drivepool and Scanner, but the information I found wasn't directly informative of whether pools made using Drivepool can be used for active program data. I have found that the answer to this is basically no - it does work, but issues result. Specifically I have found that it causes issues with Steam - sometimes Steam won't load because the shortcut can't find the executable, and the move of files by Drivepool will also cause Steam to think that installed games are no longer installed, so you have to reinstall them to get them working again. Had this happen twice with Bioshock remastered, but luckily I am on near gigabit fiber and so it doesn't take long for me to fix, but unfortunately results in data duplication across the pool.I am happy with the product for inactive data - it works fantastic for my media storage needs. However, I think that it would be a good idea to make it more obvious to potential customers that drive pools should not be used for installed programs, which I have found out the hard way is a bad idea. My OS is Windows 10 Pro x64 version 1709 and all my pool drives are mounted as NTFS folders.
