  1. Christopher,

I'm sad to say this issue appears to have come back / never really was fixed.

Since my last post, I noticed maybe once a week an SMART item appearing in the logs, but since a Windows update / reboot last night, I've seen about 10 errors in 12 hours.   After another reboot, the problem doesn't seem quite as enthusiastic, but does still seem to occur.   I've got email notifications off, so it's not spamming me to death, but it also forces me to keep email notifications off. ;-)

Hopefully this additional data helps identify / isolate the problem.

    Regards,

    Philip

  2. Hrm.  Maybe?

So, I posted that on Saturday, tried Unsafe IO overnight (about 12 hours - it crashed a couple times), toggled WMI back on, and then re-installed drivers (RSTe) to make sure I had the latest version for my board. (I did.)

I didn't have much time to fiddle with it Sunday, Monday, or today - but watching for the last 3 hours in RDC, it hasn't flagged a SMART error once.  So I dug back through the RunTask-Alert-Evaluations.log, and it appears to not have triggered an error since the driver re-install.  I was previously getting drive failure SMART errors every 30-60 minutes.

So.... possibly a driver issue, now fixed?   That'd be good news.  I'll re-post an update when / if I get more errors or in a few days.

  3. Is it possible to get improved support / coverage for this card?   It was a good fit for my needs, as I needed a 9th internal SATA port and wanted eSATA support for a Port Multiplier later.

Windows AHCI Driver picked it up with default drivers.  (Did not record what driver it used.)

Installed ASMedia Tech Driver asstor64.sys 2.0.8.0 for PM support (have not tested a PM myself yet)

  4. Get constant cycling SMART errors - drive is failing and/or drive is suspect in WMI mode.  When WMI is turned off, my other controller (StarTech PEXESAT322I ASMedia ASM1061) does not register any SMART data.  Would optimally like to have both functioning properly w/o having to toggle Unsafe Direct I/O on.
