  1. I installed the RSTe and the new driver (manually because the update utility didn't even find it). New version is dated 5/21/2015, version 4.3.0.1198. The Scanner is now able to get the smart info using safe i/o. Also with new driver, my SSD write performance get better. Old driver: 195 MB/s. New driver: 240 MB/s. TRIM is still enabled. Thanks very much for your help.
  2. First I'll backup my system disk (C:) then I'll get the new drivers and see what happens.
  3. I don't know about RSTe. There's no Intel Icon in my task bar. The driver version is 3.0.1.7016. The best I can tell you is that the driver came from HP on the original Windows DVDs that shipped with this PC about 3-4 years ago. I did a factory reset the other day and Windows Update hasn't replaced/updated the driver. There's something weird (but good) after the factory reset. Previously I could never get TRIM/AHCI enabled on my SSD. That ability magically appeared after the factory reset. Before the reset, the Scanner could get the smart info. Maybe this has something to do with AHCI mode (it's definitely turned on in bios). ----- I'm not sure how to do the BitFlock thing, but here's a url it gave me (hopefully this is what you want): https://bitflock.com/7MQ0YUKJ The first two drives have no smart info (from BitFlock), but the scanner is able to get it (I still have Direct IO/Unsafe checked). The other drives you see comprise my DrivePool. DrivePool could always get the smart info from these drives. They are on a Texas Instruments XHCI Controller (plugged in to a USB 3.0 port. ------- I haven't had a blue screen crash or experienced any problems yet with the unsafe I/O. It's probably OK.
  4. Sorry, I posted this in the wrong forum (this is DrivePool). Today, I'm clicking on all the wrong things. ------- For the controller: Intel C600 Series Chipset SATA AHCI Controller I turned on the Unsafe DirectIO option. I'm seeing the smart data now. I was just wondering if it was really bad to do. I'll let the PC for 3 days before I start using it again. If I don't have any crashes I'll assume it's going to be fine.
  5. I had to do a factory reset on my PC. When I reinstalled the Scanner, I'm no longer getting smart data. I downloaded an app called Crystal Disk Info. It displays my smart data. I read through the forum, downloaded the Direct I/O test app and tried the "Unsafe Direct I/O" setting. That works. I changed the setting in the scanner, restarted the service and I can see the smart data now. In the I/O test app, I get smart data with either of these settings: Unsafe Direct I/O Specific Method: ScsiPassThrough I only want the smart data because, before my factory reset, I noticed that the scanner would monitor the temperature and stop scanning if it thought the disks were too hot. That seems important? I want to use this PC for a media server and to backup my NAS. It will also use DrivePool. There won't be any actual people running apps, just backups and streaming videos. So... 1. Bottom line: How "unsafe" is this? If the PC doesn't crash within 24 hours - 3 days, would I be OK using Direct I/O? 2. Should I try some fake backups for a few days (every so many hours). I don't want to install Drive Pool, etc. until I know how unsafe this is. I don't want my DrivePool data corrupted. 3. Does the scanner need to monitor the temperature (and possibly stop scanning)? Is that important? I only have it scan once a month. Thanks
