  1.  As I undo my drive bender array, and see that i dont have NTFS compression enabled on where I am putting it all, do any of you have experience with some of the ntfs compressor aps / and or things like zip magic?

I'm fine with starting it ntfs compressing and run for a week. even on what it shouldnt compress i will probably get 400 gig from it, maybe more.

  2. https://www.arqbackup.com/

ARQ going to the bottomless amazon drive, encrypted, compressed, deduped.  its not fancy at all, but it works very well with drivepool. and its got a 30 day trial. $70, but its not limited up to the trial end.

my only experience on advice is if you define a backup set, it goes through the motions, but doesnt actually do anything (assuming theres something to backup, there will be a total to do), delete the backup and make it again.  it simply may not work from the start, so you wont be any worse for it. do a small test first... I've only used it with the amazon cloud drive, and files arnt online emediatly after upload all the time.. so if you do a backup test, wait a while before you do the restore test.

  3. I did 2 drives with drive benders 'remove' drive.. a week later, changed the whole set in one go and am currently moving from the drivebender subdirectories on each drive into the drivepool in a propper file copy.

It will still take a week to do, but importing the full disks into drivebender had many file protection problems, and probably long name problems, the copying, so far, hasnt. i'm getting about 2 TB a day this way.

I am impressed how robust drivepool is, in my fidling with usb lines I've knocked drives off a few times and it put itself back in working shape very quickly.

    win 7, 7 drives, 12 TB.

  4. I had it in a few places, it wasnt forgiving enough to last. I'll keep the licence and try it again later.

I wound up going the circuios route of :

netdrive  mounted the amazon cloud drive as a local drive - I needed this functionality anyways (drive e) .. very slow caching, not fast uploading.

endfs assigned to a subdirectory in that (drive u) .. endFS is glacial, with this targeted at the netdrive its twice as slow, 20 minutes to encrypt and upload a 20 meg file. dialup speeds. https://www.bestvpn.com/blog/11385/protect-cloud-storage-files-encfs/

the advantage here is its file level.. the file size is still obvios, but the names are encrypted as are the subdirectories. a failed file wont take out the virtual drive.

I'm Likeing drive pool, I'm deconstructing a drivebender configuration and moving it to another system with drivepool. it seems more robust.
