  1. So I when I add a new hard drive to my system I always,
Run a full format, not quick
    Check it in Scanner
Use it as a drive for rar files in a folder/temp upload/download files

Normally I do this for like a month ish. But my pool would love for me to add this new drive to the mix. What's your thoughts on when I should trust the new drive and it won't suffer from infant mortality?

    TIA

  2. Howdy Folks!

  3. So this beast of a server had the motherboard kick the bucket. So I have been trying to figure out what to do.

My plan is to pickup a Qnap to replace the server but of course currently all my files are in drivepool on the hard drives.

I have a Win7 PC that I could install all the drives into.

Can I install drivepool onto Windows 7 desktop, run the drivepool recovery program to setup the pool on the win7 pc?

    Thanks in advance!

  4. Yeah, they're supposed to suffer from "infant mortality".

And for me, if they pass a full surface scan, they get put into the pool right away.

And since I duplicate everything, if the drive fails, it's not going to be a huge loss for me.

However, you could configure the "Disk Usage Limiter" to only place duplicated data on the new drive, if you're worried.

Just saw another post about doing the full format to have is Zero out the disk to test it. I have her running in the background now formatting and then I am going to run that "disk usage limiter" I had No idea it was in place and it was something I was hoping existed for duplicated data.

A "Problem" that now has made my experience better.

  5. so I got tight on funds and was unable to expand my storage and now things are a bit maxed out, Realllly, maxed out....

    Hardware,
    128gb SSD
    1tb
    1tb
    2tb
    3 tb
    New 4 tb on standby

I just installed the SSD, everything is working well. pool has been restored. But where the problem comes up is I only have 5x Sata ports which are all occupied. I wanted to pull a 1tb out and put the 4tb in its place.
I have duplication running on most of my folders (im a vid/photog). 1.9tb is duplication
free space is about 46gb as of now. I cleaned off all backups from all terminals and have been removing un necessary files/folders, but I know I sadly don't have 1tb of data I can clean up.

is it possible to physically remove a TB drive, 4tb in its place and then "remove from pool" the other 1tb drive?
    just thinking outloud random ideas.

just trying to see if its possible to somehow jerry rig a solution.

    Thanks for your thoughts!!
