  1. Ok,

I've done some investigating and have determined that the config file must have been malformed in some way. When it didn't work with the stable build,I completely removed scanner and reinstalled.  When the installer didn't recreated the default config file (strange because I thought it would), I restored one from the very first install.

Deleted all settings except for the one I needed, restarted the server and voila everything is working as it should as it pertains to the config. file.

  2. I could be all wrong here, but it sounds like you may need to reset the pool (delete everything out of the C:\ProgramData\StableBit DrivePool Folder

    1) Stop the service

    2) Perform the Delete

    3) Restart the server.

  3. Scanner Beta Version: 2.5.0.2968

    OS: WHS 2011

It appears that the drive description fields are linked to the drive # rather then the Drive Serial #.  So When removing a disk and installing a new one (I guess windows is renumbering them) the description information appears to follow the # and gets all screwed up between drives.

  4. Hmm, something odd is definitely going on here.

What version of StableBit Scanner are you using? And what OS?

Also, on the plus side, it is generating errorReports when this is happening (on my system). This means that it is crashing, and is reporting where it's going wrong.

So if you could collect those and open a ticket at http://stablebit.com/Contact and upload the error reports?

    Scanner Beta Version: 2.5.0.2968

    OS: WHS 2011

Will send the requested info ASAIC

  5. I was running 447 and had the issue

im gonna wait till the next official release and hopefully it will be sorted by then

gone back to 446 and I have more color on my pie chart

although only 2 out of my five drives are not greyed out

I think it was your thread that I referred to :-)... There's definitely a bug in there, and I would have left the version installed if I knew it was still working under the hood.  Got a little nervous and went back to the stable build.

  6. Download the beta version on a client computer. Copy the installer to a shared folder on the server. Log into the server (http://wiki.covecube.com/StableBit_DrivePool_Q7200705) and then run the installer.

If you have a version of DrivePool installed already, you will want to uninstall that first. This may require you to reboot. If so, do that and log back in

After it's installed, you'll want to do the same with "WSS Troubleshooter" if it doesn't automatically "rebuild" your shared folders. RUn it and select the "Rebuild DrivePool Shares" option.

So, If I want to install the Scanner Beta, I need to first uninstall DrivePool?

  7. Last night I see this.

So following a similar post, I reset (delete everything out of the Program Data StableBit folder) and left it over night to run. Same problem this morning.  Pool is organized but all stats are incomplete and everything greyed out.??

  8. Using BETA

When adding the string C:\ProgramData\StableBit Scanner\RunningScan.txt and coping Scanner.Service.exe.config back to the folder and restarting the Service I get a "Side by Side....." Error that refers to this error in the windows application error log.

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files (x86)\StableBit\Scanner\Scanner.Service.exe".Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Program Files (x86)\StableBit\Scanner\Scanner.Service.exe.Config" on line 93. Invalid Xml syntax.

and the Service Fails to Start.

If I delete the config file, the service will start.

I've attached a copy. (Appended with .txt for uploading)

    Scanner.Service.exe.config.txt

  9. This was a WHS v1 to WHS 2011 upgrade (new machine (old one failed)) and had everything running by early Saturday Morning.  I set the duplication (folder) to match what WHS v1 DE.

DrivePool has been running pretty much non-stop (maybe 4-5 reboots) and I'm only at 16.4%.(Picture below). It was suggested that this proccess should only take hours, but at this rate it's going to take a VERY VERY long time.

13 Drives (mix between 1,1.5 and 2 TB.

    EDIT:
I forgot to mention, when I had to reboot, I noticed DrivePool started at a much lower % ... Like 4 and then maybe 8, etc..

  10. That the drives have just "disappeared" isn't a good thing to start with.

I'd recommend checking out the event viewer for disk related errors.

As for the persistent information, we've had a similar request recently, so it's on Alex's mind. I'll mention it to him again (unless you want to head to http://stablebit.com/Contact and submit the feature request, so I can pass it onto alex directly.

Yes, I agree its a problem. I did look and there were no errors that let up to them droping out. I'm realy hoping it was a connection problem in the new N54L (a fluke). The 2 drives that dropped out were next to each other.  I will be keeping an eye on it, I guess it will be a good test for DrivePool..

  11. Ok, Is it normal (when a drive 'goes missing'), for Scanner to drop the drive also?

Here's what happened: (DrivePool + Scanner)

    1) 2 Drives in my new N54L unexpantly and for no aparrent reason went missing.

    2) DrivePool showed the drives as missing, and has a helpfull bit of text that instructs for better drive location to use Scanner.

    3) The problem is, the drives are not in Scanner either. (they were missing from the WHS drive tab also.)

I would think that Scanner would make the detailed drive information persistant in order to help find the missing drive?

Anyway; a reboot fixed the problem with the missing drives...

  12. New User Here... I just upgraded my WHS version 1 installation to WHS 2011 (old WHS V1 box died), by following the instructions posted here. I'm farily certian I followed the instruction, but All of the folders are empty.

    1) When I open the folders in the Dashboard, they are empty.

    2) When I open the folders across the network, the folders are empty.

    3) When I open the DrivePool Folder via RDP everything is there.

How do I get the functionality back on 1 and 2?
