I have two drive pools in Win 7 - each is set for pool file duplication, thus roughly halving the free capacity of the pool as a whole. Windows file explorer reports the free space as the true free space of the pool (as if there were no duplication anticipated). This presents a problem when doing a monthly FULL backup using a popular 3rd party backup (MR) - as the backup program looks for free space, sees twice what is actually available and then runs for hours before running out of space, instead of being able to see that it should first remove the oldest backup to make more room.
I realize that reporting the true free space is the technically correct solution, but wonder whether it would be possible to add a optional tick box instructing DP to report free space/duplication factor for those of us in this "niche problem" situation (as getting the vendors of every other program to write a Drive Pool aware check is simply not realisitic.

Here's the hardware setup - two identical 12 tb drives, each identically partitioned (GUID) as 4..89Tb and 2.38 Tb. Then TWO Drivepools (Q and M) are created with pool file duplication, one consisting in the 4.89 TB partitions and the other (M) in the 2.38Tb partitions. This system has worked very well thus far -- my ripped blu-rays mkvs are on M and my general data is on Q. However - as my movie library has grown much faster and larger than anticipated, I need more space on M and less on Q. SO - the $1million question ---
Can I use Windows Disk Manager to resize the partitions by first shrinking Q and then expanding M? Or would I have to break the pools and do this operation on each of the constituent disks separately and then rebuild the pools?
Thanks so much for your kind help - Apologies for making my system complex, but it is all housed in an ITX enclosure so there's no room to add another disk or two.

Thanks to you both - I am trying Jaga's method, and DP has now been remeasuring the pool for several hours. Once that's done I will try to enable Pool Duplication

I have:
2 8tb hdd as Drivepool g:
1 RAID5 14.5TB as the only member of Drivepool h:
Created Drivepool I: = G: + H:
Duplication is set off on both drivepool g: and H: but when I try to enable it on Drivepool I; the icon shows dark grey Other 11.4 TB, Unusable for duplication (light grey) 11.4 TB Free Space (white) 17.7 TB and 47 B Unduplicated
What I want is to pool G with H so that everything on H is duplicated onto G as a backup of the RAID array (which has served as my sort of archive drive for music libraries, movies, and software install packages).
What am I doing wrong here? BTW all this is on WSE 2012 (not R2), which is otherwise running fine.

Sort of a final follow-up here - I did create the two drivepools - the first comprising partition 1 of HDD 1 and HDD2; the second comprising Partition 2 HDD1 and HDD2. Both are working perfectly and the tiered Macrium backups are now blazingly fast! The initial backups took a while, of course, because they had to be full backups, but the subsequent differential and interval backups are done so fast I first thought they weren't running.

I understand your comment about the backup - unfortunately I have been caught in a continuing issue with Macrium Reflect over excluding directories (as I use the Image Backup method rather than the file-by-file method) - when excluded directories are specified I get failed backups with errors about network resource not available and/or file not found-aborting. I have worked with Macrium several times over this and the simplest method is to just separate out the Movies from everything else.
I would love to have enough space/resources to just put the movies on their 2 disks and the data on its 2 disks, but my pc has 3 slots for drives - all full - and the esata port is occupied by the Bluray Disk. So - this was my idea for a solution.
Why would you not recommend the 2-disk 2-partition plan (if I can call it that for simplicity's sake)?

Here's what I have - two identical HGST 8tb sata drives - each partitioned (gpt) identically as - Partition 1 2.4tb; Partition 2 5tb.
What I want is to create two independent drive pools as - DP M (Movies) = Disk1 partition1 + Disk 2 Partition 1 and DP Q (datafiles) = Disk1 partition1 + Disk 2 Partition 2
The reason is to improve routine operations such as defrag and backups since the movies parition will change very rarely (only when a new movie is ripped) but the datafiles change constantly. THus the movies partition rarely needs to be backup up (certainly not daily) but the datafiles does need daily backups.
I want to have duplication of each of the pools across the two physical drives.
1> CAN I do this?
2> How? Is it as simple as just creating the two pools as though the partitions are "real disks"?
Once I can get the two pools created I need to move the movies from an existing drivepool which currently contains everything and takes nearly 15 hours to backup across the lan (1Gps ehternet).

I am running WSE2012 (not R2) as my home server and recently replaced LOTS of very old 4tb disks with new 12tb disks. I reorganized and greatly simplified my DrivePool structure from 7 down to just two now, but sadly realized after nearly getting everything right I REALLY wish I had slowed down to consider formatting the "F: - File History Backups" drives as 64k clusters instead of 4k.
I use this pool to receive the Macrium Reflect images of each client pc each night - so the file sizes are always BIG. The pool curently consists of 2 12tb drives (4k cluster), 2 5tb (4k) and 2 8tb (64k). I read apost about using load balancing to convert the cluster size, but could not find the option describe in my version of Drive Pool 2.2.0.877. the pool is set for 2x file duplication.
SO - Can I remove one 12 tb disk at a time - reformat it with 64k and then just add it back and let the pool rebuild SAFELY - i.e - without destroying the backups already stored? I would physically remove the drive after a shut down and do the formatting on a separate machine and then place it back.
Sorry to be so scatterbrained about this - One of the 4tb drives in this machine died and I thought I'd lost all the redirected user directory, but was able to find a backup and recovered 90% - so I'm a little gun shy right now!

I am running Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit which has been remarkably stable for more than 4 years. I added a new HGST 8tb He drive to replace an HGST 5 tb drive that was making loud noises. I installed DrivePool (I believe the 561 version) at that time (about six months ago). All was quite well until DrivePool app said there was a new version, downloaded it and installed. The next day the computer blue screened with Page Fault in non paged area 0x000000050 error. I rebooted and watched for several days, and found that each time an application tried to access the drivepool using its assigned letter (q:), the blue screen results. It does not happen if I access the same directories using the real disk's letter (k:). This is the only physical drive n the pool at the moment.
If I recall, Drivepool itself installed version.850 when it found the newer version. As part of my own attempt to fix this I installed the .852 version to see if the problem was fixed. It is not.
I have memtested the machine, and double-checked all SATA connections, and believe the bluescreen originates from the newer versions of DrivePool. Please help and let me know what other information you need from me. Thanks!
StabileBit Scanner reports SMART error Current Pending Sector Count but WD Dashboard finds no error

Running WSE 2019 in workstation mode as the backup and fileserver for home lan of 10 devices. DrivePool F: has six matched HGST 12tb NTFS 64K sector drives and stores backups from all pc's. Everything fine until yesterday Scanner reports problem with one of your disks. The drive in question shows Current Pending Sector count 8 39.2% (which percent shows on LOTS of the SMART parameters) It is using non manufacturer specific interpretation rules - with new rules downloaded 01/15/2022 and restarted. Same error.
The WD Dashboard app did a short SMART test and reported drive 100% healthy no SMART errors. SOOOoooooo--- now what? I don't want to retire a perfectly good drive - or go through the days it would take to clone almost 9TB data to a replacement drive, but neither do I want to walk in and find it dead.
