No, we don't currently support non-S3 sites with the S3 provider.
We do plan on adding S3 compatible provider support in the future.
It was more than 18 months ago when this comment was made. Has "the future" arrived? Seeing more and more cloud storage providers that are S3 compatible, I think enabling this makes sense.
