  1. Personally I don't bother backing up my OS in most cases, as I know I can reinstall the OS and most of the apps I use daily within a few hours.

What I absolutely DO backup is documents/files that can't be replaced if lost.

Tend to use Crashplan (To a machine I own) and SpiderOAK (Cloud) for backup.

Testing cloud drive on one of my machines to backup a few virtual machines to OneDrive and Hoping they'll be able to support Hubic at some time, this tends to be stuff that I'd like a backup copy of but it wouldn't be the end of the world if I lost it also the files tend to be rather large so I wouldn't want to use Google/Amazon.etc as the costs would quickly mount up.

Actually also looking for an alternative to Crashplan for backing up to my own server, but the problem is most of the Apps don't do encryption + incremental uploads/Block level.  The ones that do tend to be enterprise focused and cost a fortune.

  2. Don't think the UI is reporting usage correctly.

My Computer shows 509GB free of 899GB (900GB Cloud drive stored on Onedrive Business)

There's about 346GB of data been uploaded to the cloud drive.

However the CloudDrive UI shows Local 10Gb Cloud 890GB, i.e the Pie chart has no indication of Used/Free space.

    1.0.0.370

  3. If you rebooted it or the system marked it as "dirty", then yeah, it would want to run a chkdsk pass on it. And that would fix any issues with the data on it, actually. :)

    Glad to hear it!

Yep windows kept showing I needed to restart to perform disk maintenance, I figured since cloud drive probably wouldn't have loaded at the point it would try that it would be better to run chkdisk manually

  4. Well, I'm glad to hear that they were able to resolve it fairly quick!

And hopefully, no issues with the new build.

So far so good although windows wanted me to chkdisk the drive, probably from where the previous build had deadlocked.

  5. Well, I'm sorry to hear about the internet connectivity issues. :(

Thankfully It was solved pretty quickly after calling the ISP, (Something caused my PPP connection to drop and then somehow get stuck in a state where it had dropped my end but the network thought I still had an active PPP session and wouldn't allow me to start a new one.)

worst case I've got a 2nd connection with another ISP, it's just it's a fair bit slower and by the time I was done dealing with that I needed to goto bed to get up early for work.

Anyway I'll install the new build now.

  6. I'll try and upgrade within the next couple of days, I had hoped to do it tonight but I ended up troubleshooting an issue with my internet connection instead.  :(

  7. Not sure if it's related but I had an I/O lockup and after rebooting onedrive wanted to re-auth.

Does the authentication expire every so often/after a certain number of requests?

  8. Yes, that's what it's referring to.

It may help, but it may not.

I've experienced even more issues with it, so I'm not sure it's "fixed" yet. Unfortunately.

It's not fixed but at least in the later builds it doesn't usually bring down the whole machine.

  9. Explorer still hangs on server 2012 when it's waiting for cloud drive I/o

Winrar is largely the same, the window is unresponsive when it's waiting for the cloud drive.

  10. I've not had an IO related lockup yet when uploading to Onedrive business.

Quite a few I/O errors being logged during the upload but I'm guessing that's just them being crap

  11. Okay, I've pinged Alex directly.

As for the re-attaching issue, the latest build should fix that. (1.0.0.332)

That build fixes the encryption window not popping up but like Vrytired the trial has 0 days instead of 30.

  12. That would do it .....

And we recommend adding "C:\Program Files\StableBit" and "C:\Program Files (x86)\StableBit" (if using Scanner) to the excluded paths in Avast, and other AV solutions, to prevent this sort of issue.

I'm not that keen on doing that unless I really have to because obviously if one was to start excluding directories left right and centre for various apps it would make it even more trivial to get a virus onto a machine just by putting it into one of those directories.

That said if it's a targeted attack Antivirus is pretty useless anyway...

    Edit:

Any idea about the encryption settings not opening?

  13. Was this a clean installation or an upgrade?

And if was an upgrade, to what version and from which version?

Okay. Could you uninstall the current version, and make sure that "C:\Program Files\StableBit\CloudDrive" is empty.

If it's not, make sure you manually stop the services for it in "services.msc", use task manager to "end" the notification app, delete the directory, reboot and then reinstall?

Sorry Avast thought some of cloud-drives files were win32:Evo-Gen and decided to quarantine them, because it's a headless machine I didn't change the defaults (I.e act automatically) although it should have popped up an alert upon quarantining anything

I didn't see that it had done it until I got a notification earlier today that a threat had been blocked and logged into their management portal.

    Edit:

Flagged that file as a false positive, temporarily white listed it and re-installed (with avast disabled when installing)

I can't seem to open the settings to enable encryption on Onedrive, I tick the box (which doesn't change) and the settings button lights up but clicking it does nothing.

  14. I'll install this build on the machine I was trying to use last time and see if it solves the issue.

Edit:  Installer sat for a very long time and eventually stated the service failed to start, X64 version on server 2012r2

    from the event log.

Service cannot be started. 15. I suspect ST3000DM001 might be a particularly bad drive, seem to have seen a few threads on reddit (/r/techsupportgore) lately showing piles of dead ones.

I'm interested to know how people handle redundancy though as I was tempted to get some of these 8TB drives, at the moment I'm trying snap-raid but I'm worried a small edit to a file may corrupt a lot of parity data until it re-syncs so it's not ideal.

Then again neither is using drive-pools duplicate feature as that wastes a lot of space.

I'm also hoping developments in SSD's cause them to get much larger and cheaper.

  16. I think there are some possible stablity issues with onedrive, I was seeing I/O errors and lots of retries when I tried using it.

This is the Business version, not tried with the consumer version (I Have both).

Connection is capable of about 200/200 (It's actually a 1Gbit/s uplink but the router i have there at the moment runs out of cpu before that, also I'm not sure what the contention levels are, was seeing peaks of about 40Mbit/s to onedrive)

  17. Same thing I was seeing, I couldn't move interact with explorer or open anything but services that were running on the machine seemed to still be accessable (E.g softether vpn server was still working as I could VPN to the box)

I think the problem is caused by large files or lots of small files, essentially anything that causes a large number of API calls, My best guess is the API gets rate limited or something else causes a disruption to the upload process and when explorer tries to go access the drive it gets stuck waiting for an I/O operation.

Of course I could be way off the mark.

I've uninstalled it for now as I was only really interested in using it with either onedrive or Hubic (not yet supported) and the main reason I was interested was due to the clientside encryption (I.e I want to use these providers but it doesn't mean that I want to have to trust them 100%)

  18. Presumably I hit the API limits for Onedrive as After reboot I wasn't getting any upload/download.

It actually echos the exeperiance I had with StorageMadeEasy where the onedrive/office365 API was to unstable for handling large files.

  19. Is it possible to get into a situation where the I/O seems to deadlock, I have a 2012r2 machine I was copying 300GB or so of data to onedrive Business including lots of small files,

It Looks like the copying has stopped but also I cannot bring up task manager and a shutdown -r -f -t 30 command is hanging.  Hoping that it's cloud drive and not one of the disks in the box is failing.

  20. The issue with that, is that somebody else controls and maintains it.  And it's completely out of your hands.

And at least in the USA, providers/hosts are not required to inform customers that they have been issued a warrant or given access to your data/system to gov't agencies.

So a major point of StableBit DrivePool, and StableBit CloudDrive is to mitigate privacy issues, like that, by having much more control over the data.

I never said you couldn't use that server alongside drivepool/cloud drive.  You've already suggested mounting a file system over VPN (That said I really would like a clouddrive backend I could run on a remote server)

Also I wouldn't get a server in the USA if you were in Europe, ideally you want it somewhere fairly close to keep the latency down.
