  1. Hello everyone! I purchased DrivePool last night and set it up to pool 2 drives for movie storage/access, but I'm having an issue I didn't have before when the 2 drives were on a RAID 0 array. I have WHS2011 with Scanner and DrivePool working together, using the SSD Optimizer plugin to feed data to disks, and it all works great, but over the course of the day, i've noticed my 2 hard drives are more frequently spinning up than before. On my RAID 0 array, the disks never spun up unless they were specifically being accessed. So I did some checking, and DrivePool states the pool is balanced and everything appears "idle". I also checked Scanner and saw throttling wasn't enabled. So I enabled throttling to not scan the disks for more than 30 minutes at a time (The disks are set to standby after 10 minutes, and it worked great when it was raided). But now, the disks spin up more frequently (i'd say every 10-15 minutes I hear them spinning up now) and it's really strange. I searched some posts here and I haven't seen anyone posting about this issue yet. I'm willing to test anything anyone suggests, as I really would like to use this on my 4 other drives for main storage, but it would really be disheartening if this started happening to those drives as well. Is there anything I'm missing, or anything I can do?
  2. Ah, thanks for the clarification. Makes much more sense now. Thanks Christopher!
  3. Alright, so i've been really thinking about switching from my RAID5 array to DrivePool. I apologize in advance if this question has been asked before but, how does drivepool manage duplication on lets say, 250GB + 160GB drive in a single pool (my test config) I'm currently testing this with the 30-day Trial and it shows a total size of 385GB, but that can't possibly be the file size WITH duplication, correct? How will drivepool work once the 160GB drive has been filled? Will it notify me that duplication is no longer possible? Is there a way to see which files will NOT be duplicated any longer if I just continued to fill up the DrivePool?
  4. Yeah, more like "if it changes by X in Y amount of time" exactly. Sure, the SSD is a PNY XLR8 SSD2SC240G1LC709B121-443 ATA Device ID: WURSMVDZ I'm not too worried about the age issue though. I could be wrong, maybe I saw another drive and looked at the info too fast! I know for sure it has been powered on for longer than a day though.
  5. I would totally be into this as well! I'm running WHS 2011 and would find it SO convenient if Scanner had this feature! Basically, Scanner would WIN so much since it has e-mail notifications built in so I could be e-mailed if my CPU gets too hot, you know? Speedfan can do that too, but the manual configuration is just a PITA.
  6. Hey guys, so I was thinking about a possible feature for Scanner which could allow for either a Balloon Popup, or an e-mail alert when SMART values change (even if they're not detrimental). All depending on if the user wants to enable that or not, of course. Basically, you could right-click on a smart attribute and be notified if that value changes. I thought it would be pretty handy for users (like me) who have a WD Green drive and are always curious about Load Cycles going up, etc. Could be a handy feature. What do you guys think? And 2nd, the "Age" value for my scanner gives wrong times for my drives. I've had an SSD running on my system for over 3 months and Scanner used to show about 25 days old for the drive. Now today, the drive is only 1 day old. o_O I DID notice that my SSD was recently updated with BitFlock's latest identifier for my SSD and I thought maybe that could be it. But isn't disk age more hard-coded onto the firmware than anything?
  7. Wow, what a great bit of information there. Thanks Drashna! I'm definitely going to be considering DrivePool then. Since you have experience with HighPoint controllers, you think there's any risk in corruption or any crazy drive things happening using UnsafeDirectIO in your experience?
  8. Okay! Solved my own problem. I tried using UnsafeDirectIO and restarted the computer. It now shows SMART data from single disks on the controller. However, it doesn't show SMART data for a volume created using the controller's pool, which makes sense, given that it's combining several disks to form one SCSI disk device. But would there be any way to keep the pool using the controller's software AND read individual SMART data? I'm guessing no, but it's worth a shot. If not, what would be the best way of implementing a software RAID (like 5 and 0) via other software? I'm open to any suggestions Cheers! Edit: I'm guessing DrivePool would be a good solution as well, but I'd like to know the theory behind how it works; let's say compared to a RAID system?
  9. Hey everyone, just joined the forum a few minutes ago. Stablebit Scanner is such a great program that I purchased two licenses for myself and love it! I recently purchased a Rosewill RSV-S8 enclosure and a RocketRAID 642L RAID card. I know, it's not the greatest card, but it does work okay for now. Stablebit Scanner doesn't pull SMART data from any drive connected to the 642L card, whether it's a single disk or the enclosure. I also tested the enclosure direct to my motherboard and it was able to pull SMART info from a disk. Seems like it's definitely the controller... I did some research on the forums and a few people suggest some sort of UnsafeIO setting. Not sure what to do yet as I don't want to mess anything up, so I'd rather get some advice from you guys and/or the developers!
