Migration/Upgrade to Essential 2012 R2 - Existing Pools Question

wsleeve

Question

I am thinking of installing a mSATA SSD and installing a Essential 2012 R2 installation on there, so I will be migrating from Essential 2012 -- My question is will I be able to simply migrate the existing pools to a new OS without having to completely recopy everything? If so, what do I have to backup from %appdata% to keep this information?

Yes.

And you don't need to copy anything.

The information about the pool is stored on the pool. So you just reinstall, and you're done.

However, you will lose balancing settings and such. But the pool and duplication information is maintained.

The only thing is that I would recommend running the WSS Troubleshooter to recreate the shared folders for you.
