File Placement Limit

Bcbear

Question

I understand the need for this feature on company servers and such but is there a way to turn it off? I use it for home and I have two hdds with one bad sector each.  The SMART scanning doesn't show any imminent danger and I would like to put the drives back in the Drivepool.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bad sectors or damaged sectors?

If it's damaged sectors, then you're already in "imminent danger". A read should NEVER fail on the drive, unless "Something Bad Has Happened" already.  Modern drives do a whole bunch of things to make sure that they can read from the drive. And if that's failed ....

If the drive is under warranty, RMA it.  If not .... I wouldn't recommend it for usage in general.

That said, turning off the StableBit Scanner balancer would disable that behavior.
