kilops Posted September 17 Posted September 17 (edited) Hello, I'll make it short : My pool is made of many different drives, old and new, SATA and USB (I know...) I manually check the SMART health and one of my old-and-reliable HDD popped a 2nd recovered bad cluster (temperature ok, CRC checks ok) Can I keep it in the pool but only for duplicated files (set to 3rd or more dupe maybe) ? if so, how ? Thank you in advance. Edited September 18 by kilops spell check Quote
0 Christopher (Drashna) Posted September 18 Posted September 18 In the balancing settings, check the balancers. There are two options to handle this. The first is the "Drive Usage Limiter" balancer. Uncheck the "Unduplicated" data option for that drive. Alternatively, you can also set the StableBit Scanner balancer there to "Move un-duplicated data out of drives with SMART warnings. The option for damaged drives should be enabled by default. But if you want the drives with SMART warnings to be evacuated, that's how. You can leave the "move duplicated files out of drives with smart warnings" unchecked, and it will keep duplicated data on the drives. The StableBit Scanner balancer is the better option, IMO, as that this should handle things more automatically. However, if you're having SMART warnings on the drive, I would recommend replacing the drive, if it's still under warranty. Quote
0 kilops Posted September 19 Author Posted September 19 Thank you , I will look into that ! And about that warranty thing ... 112074 hours on 2529 power on counts ... that old Western Digital man refuse to quit just yet. O7 Quote
1 kilops Posted September 28 Author Posted September 28 I hope this will not be seen as spam :} Destiny decided that a 1 year old drive would crash with zero warnings. (RMA in progress) I'm switching to full 2:1 backups thanks to DrivePool my OLD reliable HDD is still OK by the way. to my fellow data hoarders : your backups must deal with at least the worst case scenario , SMART is nice but not fool proof Quote
0 Christopher (Drashna) Posted September 30 Posted September 30 Nope. And given ... everything, if you can get that drive replaced under warranty, it's absolutely worth doing! And yeah, some of these drives will last forever! Quote
