Question

Hi there

Been a long time since I was last here - testament to DriverPool (and scanner and clouddrive) just working without fuss.

How do I retrieve my licences (for all three products) to a new machine?

I have built a new machine and moved all my drives to the new machine.  Drivepool recognised  the pool just fine.  For now just using the 30 day free trial.  I found my original DrivePool activation code (from an email 13 years ago) but that does not work.  Nor for the original activations for scanner and clouddrive.

I tried to find a login for a portal on Covecube or Stablebit of some kind where this stuff is stored but there appears to be no such thing.

cheers
Edward

Scrub this.  I found the solution.

Need to de-acativate old licensees first. I was thrown by the error message saying "Licence not found, contact support" (or words to that effect).  Clearly the licence is valid and should be able to be found (on Covecube) so a more helpful message saying"Licence found but in use elsewhere, Consider purchasing a new licence or de-activating the in-use licence first).  Better still would be "Licence in use elsewhere, would you like to transfer here?"  This would also cover the situations where the old machine is no longer accessible (lost, stolen, bust).

Yeah, you have to deactivate the licenses first.

As for the message, it's not likely to change any time soon.  The reason for that is that you can have up to 8 licenses attached to an activation ID.  But you can also have licenses for one product (eg, StableBit Scanner) but not another (eg, DrivePool).  Both to keep it simpler and not having a whole bunch of specific wording. And it also makes it more difficult to try and brute force activation IDs.

Also, using StableBit Cloud to manage the licenses make things a lot simpler, as it handles it (semi) automatically.
