Was there an update after the pinned post? Fix? I seem to have lost files this way with the file names to be correct but the respective content is not.

No.

Unfortunately, because we're following what is prescribed for how these types to be handled.   The onus is on the other software to handle things correctly, not for us to implement workarounds for incorrect handling.
