WHS2011 to Windows 11 Pro with DrivePool

I have recently bought a new Window 11 Home PC (Intel 14th Gen.) to replace an older Windows 11 Pro PC (Intel 8th Gen) and I intend to use the old Windows 11 Pro PC to replace my also aging Windows Home server 2011 which has Drivepool version 1.0 which is causing me various problems with installing the connector s/w but I have a workaround for that but inconvenient.

Is the correct procedure (I have looked online and some say install Stablebit after installing my pooled drives)

• Reset the old Window 11 Pro first to remove everything and let it download the latest up to date version
• Then install a new version of Stablebit Pro rather than releasing my old version 1.0 from my WHS2011, I am not bothered about the additional cost.
• Transfer my 7 hard drives (65TB in total) to the new Windows 11 Pro pc and just connect them all up.
• Should all my drive pool data still be intact when I reboot the PC.

Hi wecpc, that procedure will work.

It is preferable to connect all of a pool's drives at the same time (e.g. while Windows is not running or before DrivePool is installed) rather than one at a time so that DrivePool does not complain about missing drives, but DrivePool should automatically put any pool with missing disks into read-only mode until all disks are found.

If you have any custom balancing/placement settings for your pool(s) you should take note of them before migrating as you may need to redo them on the new machine, but any duplication settings will be carried across automatically.

All content should remain intact.

You'll also likely need to reset the permissions on the pool, as WHS2011 uses some unusual permissions to manage things.

The license is for both versions (the 1.x, and 2.x), so you don't need a new license, at all.  You will want to deactivate the license prior to decommissioning the old system/install, as this will free up the license to be activated on the new system.  If you run into issues with this, open up a ticket at https://stablebit.com/Contact so we can assist you with the license.
