Can duplication be circumvented?

e36M3

Question

Today I accidentally hit the power button on my computer when copying into a duplicated folder and Windows proceeded to shut down pretty much all of my apps before I was able hit cancel.  This got me thinking, if I'm copying into a folder that is slated for duplication, is it always guaranteed to be duplicated?  I don't know if drivepool runs as a Windows service or something lower level, but is it something that can accidentally be shut down and some files may not get duplicated as expected?
