backup Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Becoming more and more concerned with Windows enshitification and am wondering if Drivepool will ever be offered with it's own OS? I like Windows, but just don't use it any more. Windows is retained only to run Drivepool. Please Covecube, free us from Windows. Or at least the new versions of Windows. Windows as an OS is just fine, Especially for products which never connect to the internet. What batshit is selling is no longer an OS - it's a dog collar. Quote
Christopher (Drashna) Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Well, Windows IoT is it's own thing, and looks like it's meant to be an embedded or OEM solution. Which means sold with hardware, only. And profit margins on hardware have never been great. But they're about the worst that they could be right now with the whole AI memory/nand issues, tariffs, etc. But appears to work just fine on Windows 11 IoT. As for "its own OS", it sounds like you're asking for a customized linux type distro. Nothing like that is on the table currently. At best, we'd need to add linux support (even it is limited to a specific distro or the like). How everything works on Linux is very, very different from Windows. So wouldn't be a small undertaking.
