Hi All

I recently replaced a dying HDD in my 8-drive pool but this new 4TB HDD is showing duplicated (x3) = 423GB & 'other' = 1.56TB. When I view this new HDD in Windows Explorer (I: drive) it only lists the PoolPart.27099acc-9b43-4aff-8854-db05102694da; no other folders/files listed. All of the other HDD's in the pool also show PoolPart.27099acc-9b43-4aff-8854-db05102694da but contain no 'other' entry. i've tried remeasuring, re-balancing & reset all settings but this 'other' value of 1.56TB remains. I: drive properties only lists the 423GB poolpart.

I ran chkdsk on I: but no errors found; any suggestions?

The recycle bin was empty. System Volume Information folder was empty

I think I may have found the problem.

On removing the Poolpart.27099acc-9b43-4aff-8854-db05102694da the HDD was still reporting 1.6TB used by Aomei partition assistant!  I removed all the partitions on I: & created a new partition.  I removed the I: drive from the drivepool & then re-added it to the pool.  The phantom 1.56TB "other" on I: has gone!

I don't know what caused this problem but, for now, it's fixed

Thanks Shane for your input.

I'd suspect the 'Other' data is in the "$RECYCLE.BIN" and/or "System Volume Information" system folders in either "I:\" (physical disk root) or "I:\PoolPart.27099acc-9b43-4aff-8854-db05102694da" (poolpart root).

As those are folders that have both of the System and Hidden attributes set by Windows they don't show up if you've only set Hidden items to be visible, you have to set System items to be visible as well.

Some disk measuring utilities (e.g. current versions of WinDirStat and TreeSize) can be run as Administrator to show the actual size and contents of System attributed folders (some utilities can't do this).

I also notice that the poolpart in I: drive doesn't have the Hidden attribute set; normally this only occurs to poolparts that have been removed from a pool.
