DMZH Posted January 18 Posted January 18 hello. i have pool with old disks 1tb+3tb+3tb and approx 3.6tb of data on it. Data balancing for example like 600gb + 1500gb + 1500gb now a change one bad 3tb disk to big 12 tb. now pool is 1tb+3tb+12tb. and balancing previuos data after days looks like 0.3gb+0.7gb+3590gb. Almost data moved to big and fast disk. Why? ps i do not make any balansig rules or something. all settings by default. and i have scanner and all disks is ok and not damaged. Quote
0 Shane Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Hi DMZH, it's likely the result of it being so much bigger than all the other disks interacting with the default balancers (most likely the Duplication Space Optimizer) and DrivePool's preference to otherwise write to the fastest disk with the most free space. If you're not using duplication and/or want an even distribution of used space, you could turn off that balancer and turn on the Disk Space Equalizer balancer (set it to equalize by space used). You may need to adjust DSE balancer's priority (e.g. if you are using Scanner, make sure it is lower than Scanner). DMZH 1 Quote
0 DMZH Posted January 19 Author Posted January 19 Hi Shane, thanks for your answer. Equal or proportional using of space not is my "must" goal. But 12tb only 4 times bigger then 3tb but get almost all data. Im newbee and just need advice - is it normal situation or something wrong? I dont use any duplication and here is my default balancers rules (see pic). What you recommend - its enough for "normal" and "standard" work? Or i need finally enable DSE for this situation? Quote
0 Shane Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Far as I can tell it's a normal situation, the pool's working properly. DMZH 1 Quote
0 Shane Posted January 20 Posted January 20 P.S. I do strongly recommend making sure that Manage Pool -> Performance -> Read striping is NOT ticked. Quote
0 DMZH Posted January 21 Author Posted January 21 Hi, Shane. Its checked by default. Ok i will uncheck it but why? Is it decrease performance for unduplicated mode? Quote
0 Shane Posted January 21 Posted January 21 It won't affect unduplicated mode. It's just there's currently a bug that may cause duplicated files to be read incorrectly if read striping is enabled - so disabling it now means no risk from the bug if you happen to turn on duplication in the future.
