Windows 10 crash when writing files to DrivePool drive

wilsky

Question

Hi.

Hope someone here can help me.

I am running a fairly new computer:

  • Intel Core i5-6600K on Asus Z170-Deluze
  • 48 GB RAM
  • Disks: Samsung M.2 for OS, Western Digital 3.5" for data.
  • Windows 10 (build 16184).
  • DrivePool ver 2.2.0.561 BETA.
  • Bitlocker on all disks.

I have two DrivePools volumes. One with 5 drives and one with only 1 drive.

I also run Stablebit Scanner saying all drives are healthy,

When ever I try to save a file in Excel, Word etc. to one of the two pools, then my computer crashes with green screen and stop code: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION what failed: NTFS.SYS.

If I give a disk in each of the drivepools a direct drive letter and tries to save in Word, Excel etc. to the disks directly. Then there are no issues. This makes me believe it is a DrivePool problem.

The problem has arrived in resent weeks/months.

Anyone have experienced something like this?

Best regards

Kristian

2.1.1.561 or 2.2.0.651?

That said, try this version:

http://dl.covecube.com/DrivePoolWindows/beta/download/StableBit.DrivePool_2.2.0.746_x64_BETA.exe

There are a couple of BSOD related issues that are addressed in this build, and may fix the issue you're seeing.

Otherwise, please upload the crash dumps:

Hi again

Unfortunately with the new beta version the computer still crashes when I try to save a file in Word or Excel directly in a drivepool.

If i save it on another drive and copy it via explorer to the drivepool, then no problem.

I have used your Troubleshooter tool and submitted the data to you.

Best regards

Hi Christopher

Thank you for your reply.

I have both 2 x 16 GB Kingston HyperX modules and also 4 x 8 GB Corsair Vengeance. The error happens with both types of memory. I have reproduced the error with only the HyperX installed and with a combination af 2 x HyperX and 2 x Vengeance.

Is there a memory tester you can recommend me trying and a specific test?

Best regards

Kristian

Thanks. Downloaded Passmark Memtest86 v7.3 and it has been running tests on the HyperX modules for the last 3 1/2 hours without any errors found. On its second pass now.

So doesn't look like memory error.

Best regards

Kristian

Good evening.

I had a similar problem after installing Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

I had Drivepool 2.2.0.852 BETA installed, after that I installed Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, and then BSOD occured after trying to modify existing files to my DrivePool: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION in NTFS.sys.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling Stablebit Drivepool beta... BSODs occured.

Downgrading to version 2.2.0.747 all seems to be ok....

Can you please see if it's possible to have a new updated BETA version that fix the 2.2.0.852 issues?

Thank you.

Starting today I am seeing the same issue. :(

I am on build 852 and the Fall Creators Update. Currently it seems like the crash happens every time, when Dropbox is trying to sync an update to a local file on my drive pool. Closing Dropbox right after the login seems to avoid the BSOD-Reboot-BSOD-loop for now.

How should I proceed? Send my memory dumps according to http://wiki.covecube.com/System_Crashes ?

Update to a newer or or downgrade to build 747?

edit: Uploaded the crash dump. Will now try build 870 and if that does not help, I will downgrade to build 747.

edit2: With build 870 Dropbox succeeded to sync that final file without causing a BSOD. I don't know if the issue has been solved or if only the way to trigger the BSOD-causing bug has changed? I hope that my memory dump will be helpful for the devs to find the cause of this issue.
