Slow download rate, at the moment not useable product

manticore.mm

Question

First i love the idea behind stable bit cloud.

I have an unlimited google drive account and i like the idea i can use stable bit as an archiv tool in combination with google drive.

First my specs:

- 50/10 mbit internet line

- 100TB Google Drive created with default settings, 10mb chunk, 2 dl and 2ul threads, pining and prefetching on etc.. , cache set to minimum.

- latest beta, 1.0.0.595 x64

- win10 pro x64

Upload -> its all ok, is see 10-12mbit upload and thats really ok

Download -> horrible. If i try to copy a file from pool to local hard drive it starts with 1mb/s going down to 0kb/s and so on.. really slow. not usable.

If i download a file directly from google drive web i get 6-7mb/s

i change the pool settings but nothing helped. until now i am testing your product, but with that download speeds it really sucks :(

I tryed it on an 100/100 line too and even there the download rate is much worse in compare with a download from the webpage.

Its not useable.. even if i think to create a 100gb cache, i dont want copy files not in cache with effective 0,5-1mb/s.

With my 1 gbit i can currently utilize around 700 mbit, due to 20 mb chunks finishing so fast that the http delays are ruining the rest of the speed :) So im hoping for the return of 100 mb chunks so 1 gbit users can really utilize the full speed.

Try increasing the maximum amount of download threads in the drive I/O settings - if stuck at 2 (default) it might be the reason for it to be slow, due to the http delays between each download

My bottleneck currently is only the http delay between each thread as they sometimes can be several seconds! So I look forward to the day they reintroduce the 100 mb chunks :-) with those I was at constant 1000 mbit because http delays didn't give issues :-)

That and then getting prefetching to prioritise each file equally or each file having its own prefetching limit then we are really getting somewhere!

I have tried it on two different PCs in two different countries and with 50/10 or 100/100 upload was always good but if you want to download big files direct download from web page was way faster than stablebit. i tested with 10/20mb chunks, high thread count, prefetch on/off etc.. i dont see to pay for this atm.

I mainly want to confirm a few things:

You've said that you're using StableBit CloudDrive 1.0.0.595

And you're using Windows 10 Pro x64

And you have 50/10 for internet speed

And that you're using Google Drive

What size cache do you have set?

What type of caching are you using?

Is the drive encrypted?

Are you using prefetching?

How are you testing this specifically?

Have you tried copying a number of files (small and large), detach the drive, reattach it and then test it?

Also, depending on the activity, this may be normal.

Specifically, StableBit CloudDrive stores the data in chunks of raw data. And since it functions like an actual drive, the data may not be contiguous or sequential.  That means that it may be grabbing a bunch of small chunks from different areas.

Also, prefetching may change the behavior, based on disk activity.

Also, could you try the 1.0.0.592 build rather than the absolute newest?

And could you enable logging and reproduce the issue?
